Are ther any other economic-political systems still relatively unknown to the human condition that would make for a new progressive eco-political structure? That is, a economic-political system whereby the majority of the world's population would benefit, and most human beings would be free from want?

The only way for a government to work only for the people is for there to be no corruption among the people. If that ever happened it wouldn't matter which government you chose, they would all work. The only thing that can save a political system is its ability to recreate itself. Sure it will fail for a while, but it can be, and will be, recreated and renewed as people grow wary of its corruption.

As for those of you who think capitalism hasn't ever failed, think back to right before Teddy Roosevelt took office. The tycoons of the time would get the people working for them. They would print there own form of money. They would charge the people (who only had access to the company stores) outrageous amounts of money for the necessities of life. The person had to work to survive. When he died his debt was passed to his children. He could never quit becuase he owed the company to much money. It was an endless cycle and it took government intervention to break it. I personally am glad I do not have to live in those conditions.

Well, many of the ideals set forth by these political systems you have named make a lot of sense on paper but, as humans, we have a way of screwing up a good thing. There is no one-size-fits-all solution to cultures across the board. Capitalism through Democracy seems to work but it also creates problems. If you look throughout history there have really been no new ideas for hundreds of years. Pretty much every political system imaginable has been tried at one point or another in time. Some have lasted a while but it seems that no matter which system we choose corruption always creeps in and destroys the economy and ultimately the country or state that it was designed to protect.

How has capitalism failed the majority of the people? If anything, sapitalism is TOO responsive to the majority. Sure, we might shut down factories here in the US and ship jobs overseas, but that's because WE WANT THEM TOO. We ship jobs to Korea and Guatamala and Mexico because we like paying less money for goods and services. Public demands lower prices, the free market responds in a way to provide those services.

During the 80's when the US was de-industrializing (is that a word?) everyone freaked out and thought the US economy would tank. Real GNP, instead, grew by massive leaps and bounds because the losses in industry were offset by increases in productivity everywhere else. Capitalsim works pretty well.

You are either showing your youth, or you are not very educated regarding the fact that an incentive-based system is the only type that will prevail in the end.

To group Capitalism with Socialism and Communism tells me that you do not know enough about any of those systems to make a reasonable judgment regarding any of them.

Capitalism will always prevail.

Capitalism is nice. it is people who combat against it by using way of sophistication war and "Nudge" Sunstein that make it seem as whether that's failing. there'll continually be greed no count what equipment you have in place--yet to look at capitalism as something that presently stands loose and sparkling is a mistake. Our government has been working against it for some years to make certain that it fails. Why? power.

Where is it written that humans would be free from want without the input of blood sweat and tears? In any case the Capitalist system as practiced in the USA has worked better than anything else or anywhere else. Nothing is perfect in this world and there will always be the doomer and gloomers to rain on everybody's parade

Laisse-faire Capitalism has never been fully achieved. It is the only political system in the history of mankind that protects individual rights.

Communism which is the logical consequence of socialism is a dismal failure. Fascism as history has proven is just as bad as Communism.

I wouldn't say it's fair to claim that capitalism has failed the majority of people yet. It's been working fine here in the United States. Sure, we've still got people living in poverty, but they're by no means a majority.

capitalism hasn't failed... corrupt capitalism will cause a backslide, but capitalism will benefit the majority of the people the majority of the time.

remember that some people don't want to benefit though. lazy people won't do to well under capitalism.

but if someone is willing to educate themselves, work hard and be smart with their earnings, they'll have a good life.

You can't depend on the structure of your goverment to help you out in life. You have to work hard, that's the only way to get anywhere in life.
