Similes are more specific meaning very direct comparison. Such as, "Dead as a cold wind."

An explicit comparison, often (but not necessarily) employing "like" or "as."

Love is like putting your oars in the boat, resting your weary arms, and drifting pleasantly on the crests of a dozen waves.

yea u are
anytime u compare to unlike things USING like or as ur doing it right
it's the opposite of a metaphor which DOESN'T USE like or as

simile ex would be: love is like fire
because love and fire are unlike things
and they are being compared to each other using like

metaphor ex: love is fire
because love and fir are unlike things
but they are being compared without the use of like or as

does that help?

You could do worse than quote Robert Burns:
'My love is like a red, red rose that's newly sprung in june,
My love is like the melody that's sweetly played in tune...'

Love is like fine chocolate.

Love is like a spear through the gut.

Love is like a sunny day.
