What would job interviewers consider an acceptable excuse for not working for several months since I quit my last job?

Were you caring for a sick relative or recovering from an injury? Perhaps you simply felt like you wanted to do some traveling before you buckled down to another job

Why were you out of work? How about being honest?
An honest answer would be better than making up lies and having to remember which lies you told to whom.

If you have children, then you can always use that as an excuse.
