hey there--
Sounds like you have palmar hyperhidrosis (the medical term for excessive sweating of the hands/palms). It is a genetic disorder--so you can thank your parents for this one. The good news is that there are treatments that are MUCH safer than surgery. You have to be careful of surgery because it often causes "comensatory sweating" which is profuse sweating on large areas of the body as a result of the surgery. In addition, surgery is not reversible--no matter what the doc tells you.
So, on to the good news of safe and effective options: According tot he International Hyperhidrosis Society (the world's gurus of sweat at www.SweatHelp.org) you can treat palmar HH by:
1.) *Proper* use of strong anti-perspirants
2.) Iontophoresis
3.) Botox
Lots of us use these treatments in combination too. It's so important to get with a dermatologist that knows all about these options and you craft the best treatment plan. The IHHS has a good physician database that you can use to find a derm near you. Plus while you are there you can read all about the treatment options so you can become a guru too!
Hey, make sure you subscribe to their newsletter. They tell you about new developments in HH so you can be the first in line to get the best in class treatment. Check out their recent article about Secret Clinical Strength, for example.
Good luck fellow sweater!

Why are you embarrassed about it? Do people say that you should be? You shouldn't even care what other people think. Its normal to have your hands sweat. It just means you have more perspiration around there than some other people. But that shouldn't let you worry about yourself. ITS NORMAL. If you ask people, you will be surprised. Many people are embarrassed of the same thing only they shouldn't be. Its not like its a virus. TRUST ME. Ask you parents or your Health Teacher about it if your still in school. They should explain everything there is to know about sweating in that area. Its okay. :-)

Get a pair of gloves. Before you go to sleep at night put a lot of lotion on your hands and then put your gloves on. Sleep like this 3 to 4 times a week and you'll notice a difference. I read it one time in a magazine, and I swear it works. You can buy sleeping gloves at bath and bodyworks.

Hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating). Here is a website that I copied and pasted for you. My boyfriend also has sweaty palms. He sweats in the winter more than the summer and his hands are cold when he sweats.

You CAN stop sweaty hands. It is not impossible, it just a matter of finding what type of hyperhidrosis you have to learn how to stop sweaty palms.
Secondary hyperhidrosis have a known cause, thus it is easier to treat. A lot of people have sweaty palms because of stress situation when anxiety builds up in the body. Sweaty palms appear as a reaction of the stress.
If you have primary hyperhidrosis is another matter because primary hyperhidrosis doesn’t have a known cause. The best and viable option for eliminating sweaty palms would be by surgery. This type of surgery is called Endoscopic Thoracic Sympathectomy, an intrusive method for stopping excessive sweating that involves cutting or burning the nerve ends that control the amount of sweating. This is the best option for primary hyperhidrosis because it is something that you can actually take control of.
Hyperhidrosis (Sweaty Palms)
Most people have hyperhidrosis (sweaty palms). Hyperhidrosis has affected many people emotionally and mentally. You may have heard about the methods to cure it - injection of Botox and the other is ETS (cutting of a nerve node). You may be wondering which way should you go.
Profuse sweating that occurs at times other than in hot conditions or after exercise is usually due to a rare disorder called hyperhidrosis, marked by perspiration produced in abundance by overactive sweat glands. Excessive sweating may be all over the body or be limited to certain areas of the body.
It commonly affects the underarms, palms of the hands, and soles of the feet. It has also been known to affect the face, neck, backs of the knees, groin, and beneath the breasts. It is a condition that affects both men and women and usually begins during childhood or at puberty. However, the condition improves spontaneously for many people in their mid-twenties or early thirties.
The hyperhidrosis itself can cause anxiety or distress for people who have it, which leads to additional sweating which may further incapacitating them during social and business interactions.
If you have primary hyperhidrosis, your doctor may recommend the following treatment possibilities depending on how severe it is:
For mild hyperhidrosis:
- Apply talcum powder to perspiration-prone areas.
- Dust medicated powder on affected areas to help soak up sweat and prevent bacterial growth.
- For damp feet, slip on cotton socks and shoes. Regularly use and replace absorbent insoles in shoes.
For moderate or persistent hyperhidrosis:
- Apply aluminum chloride paint (or other aluminum salt preparations) to perspiration-producing areas to block your sweat pores.
For severe hyperhidrosis:
- Take a prescription anticholinergic drug recommended by your provider.

Carry a tissue in your pockets, and if you're going to shake someone's hand or something, discretely dry your hands before pulling them out of your pocket.
