Be more or less likely to vote for the woman? What about if one were a minority?

Again, my premise is that you have two basically identical candidates, political point of view-wise, and their views are very close to your own.

Kapute, I hate to break it to you, but I don't really give a darn who you vote for! This is just a hypothetical question, understand that concept?

Then I would go on their history, their voting record, and most importantly my gut feel.

Wow! This is a tough one. I sort of agree with Steven F.'s comment though. I would much prefer to vote for the candidate that may disagree with my way of thinking, but can be trusted to follow through on what he intends, and is strong enough to follow his convictions. We've already had plenty of candidates promise whatever they think it is we want to hear. They sound like us, and sound like our way of thinking, but they never deliver, because lobbyists, and other pressures are stronger than their own convictions.

I suppose, if both candidates displayed the same characteristics, points of view, etc., as my own, then I would have to look at their history of voting, and their own records of promises kept. Seeing is believing...Then I'd cross my fingers and pray.

Your question is based on the phrase "If all else is equal ...". The problem with any such question is, all else is NEVER equal. That said, neither race nor gender are on my list of considerations. My primary factor is, who do I believe will do what the believe is the right thing to do. Given a choice between someone that will do what is right, but disagrees with me about what that is, and someone that agrees with me about what is right, but can't be counted on to do it, I'll take the first. I have a remote chance of converting them to my views, the latter is hopeless.

I'd vote for the minority/woman. What this country needs is an angry black bull-dyke in charge.
She'd straighten things out in a hurry.

Given the limits of the hypothetical, I might be tempted to vote for the woman or minority, just to give everyone a chance.

I've lost job offers (at least one) for the same reason!

Never happen. They make sure there are some differences in their views. It's supposed to give us a choice on their beliefs & hopefully future actions, not make it a popularity contest.

If we're talking about the next election, I would vote for the Democrat. Sex and race wouldn't matter.
