There are two ways you can solve the first part of your question. The first way is to multiply (12) by (3/4) and your answer will be 9. You multiply (3/4) by twelve because there are 12 eggs in a dozen. Or the next way you can solve the problem is by taking 12 eggs and dividing twelve eggs into four equal groups of three eggs each which would equal 12 eggs total. From there take three of the four groups of eggs and count them. Three groups of eggs with three eggs in each group equals 9 eggs. Carl boiled 9 eggs.
Again, you can either multiply (9)(2/3) to give you 6 eggs or you can take your 9 eggs and divide them into 3 equal groups of eggs with three eggs in each group. Then take away two groups of eggs and count them. The total of eggs would be 6. Carl used 6 eggs to make sandwiches. Drawing pictures also helps.

I'm not sure how old you are, but let me help you answer this visually. A dozen is 12.
Take 12 of anything (say, pennys,) and line them up.
Divide them into 4 equal groups. Each group is 1/4 of a dozen.
Take 3 of the groups and push them to one side and count them. This number is 3/4 of a dozen.
With this new group of pennys, divide them into 3 equal piles.
Count the pennys in two of the piles.
This number is 2/3 of 3/4 of a dozen.
The trick with math questions is to break them down into small steps.
