I have had dreams where I am dreaming inside the dream. They are feaky!!
There are some people who do not remember their dreams and therefor think that "they do not dream."
Fact is we do dream everynight, each only lasting a couple seconds to a few minutes. I think that it is cool that if you do remember dreaming - some feel like they have occured all night long!!
I don't know if we would in fact die, per se, but it would be interesting to see if there is any more research on your question.

I had a dream i ran over a black cat and crashed in to a palm tree and still went out with the tree stuck on my hood... lol
