I live in Southern Ontario, Canada. What is the best time of month to apply grass seed??

I live in southern Michigan. Here, the best month to apply grass seed is September. April is the second best month, but only if you don't apply a pre-emergent herbicide in the spring to control crabgrass. From mid-May to August, hot temps can be harmful to young grass. Of course, you know what October-March is like in the Great Lakes. If you're going to apply grass seed this spring, do it now.

My guess would be sometime in May. Check with neighbors or call the weather service at the TV station and ask them when the frost free date is for your area. That is the date that you no longer have frost. Mid May sounds about right to me. Good luck.

I assume you are talking about Spring. Actually they say Autumn is the best time to plant, but you may want grass before that. If it's Fall your looking for then it's September.

Fall is the best time, but if you must seed, you could get it down earlier than soil will germinate it. You will need to be patient for soil temps to warm up for it to pop though. It won't go anywhere and will germinate at first chance if patient. If I had to guess ( I Live in Northern New England) , 4th week in Apr. is when soil is warm enough to begin germinating.

In early spring while still getting cool nightime temps. but warm days. The evening moisture and warm days speeds up germination. By seeding in ealry spring you need not worry about as many birds feeding on your seed.

If your filling in bare spots you can do it any time as long as you water it, but the best time is August it is not as hot and lets it get a start before winter

the best time is sept/oct....My granddad used to sprinkle more on than he need to , due , to the birds. Canadian is the best too!! So thank you too!
