what are you trying to feed him? and also, they usually dont eat if your right in front of the bowl staring at him. i was feeding mine beta food pellets from walmart.about 3 small pellets a day. he would usually wait till later to eat them, once they sank to the bottom and he thought i wasnt around anymore. he might just be eating after you leave.

Two thoughts:
I think beta's are a tropical fish, so if the temp is cold, it will be groggy and uninterested. Also....
Don't let uneaten food or waste to accumulate on the bottom of the bowl, keep it clear. Drop in one grain of food. If it wont eat the food, suck it out of the bowl. Repeat this about every 6 hours until he eats the food; then give him a few more until he stops eating them quickly. The number of grains eaten at this time should be the most it wants to eat at any single meal. Feed once a day or half of this amount twice a day.
For my beta this worked. Rupert Blue get ~ 3 grains in the morning and evening. Good luck.

Depending on your fish andhow much excercise he gets you could feed once a day or once a week. I have a betta in a 20 gallon tank with other fish. When it was just him, i fed him every other day. Now i feed him every day. Also I had to try several different types of food until he started eating as soon as i droppped the food. Mine HATES bloodworms. LOVES HBH Betta Bites. Also try feedinghim at different times of the day. Joe will ONLY eat in the afternoon or night time. Good Luck...

Your definately NOT over reacting. All healthy fish are always hungry and will eat most food. Your Betta fish might be still getting used to your tank/bowl. Feed him live food.

When I first got my beta fish it wouldn't eat either. I got it new food, bloodworms, and then it would eat those. After a while though, I switched back to the fish pellets. They don't eat the fish flakes though, I tried that too. It might have to get used to the new environment too. I feed mine once or twice a day, about 3-5 pellets at a time.

He's still kind of new, so he might still be adjusting to the new home. Are you feeding the same type of food he got at the place where you bought him? Sometimes it takes them a while to decide to eat something they aren't used to. Another thing I'd check is his temperature. They're more active and will eat better at water (not room) temperatures 76-80, although they can live at temperatures below this.

some bettas prefer flake betta food & some prefer the betta pellets. it all depends on what they were used to eating before. my son's betta did the same thing so we decided to try a different type of food & when we switched from the pellets to the flakes he started eating immediately.
