Good for you! Don't trust the woman.. You are doing the right thing by using a condom. Many women, especially young women, aren't responsible enough to make sure they take their pill on a regular schedule. As long as you take responsibility to protect yourself, you won't be surprise by somebody saying "hi, daddy" until you are ready.
They have experimented with a few things for men but, as usual, it is not considered "manly" so they leave it up to the woman...foolish, foolish as they are.

For a start, there is a male birth control pill. It was presented in the UK this year.
But on the other hand: I wouldn't trust my daughter not taking the pill and her boyfriend to be the "resqponsable" one: she'll be the one getting the baby, so if he forgets or just does not care, she'll be the one with the direct consequenses. So, if you mean "why not both take the pill", I totally agree. A baby should be wanted, not an axident, so that the chances would be maximulm for a loving father and mother.

Hey now, I am on the pill and I don't think I have ever been more than 2 hours late taking it. I do, however, make my boyfriend wear a condom every time because of the slight chance the birth control will fail.
You should use condoms as well, protect yourself and your partner.

One is being developed, but it's much harder to make one for men. Women naturally go 'infertile' when they're pregnant (i.e. they won't keep getting pregnant) - all you have to do is fool the body into thinking it's pregnant through using hormones. Men are fertile all the time, so it presents different challenges.
You can rest assure drug companies are doing all they can - it'd be an absolutely huge market, and there'd be lots of money to be made.

They are working on several possible ways right now, but even with the finished product it must be approved by the FDA and would take years of clinical studies to certify it is safe for use (and most importantly reliable)

Here, here! Why do we guys get the shaft on these things? Viagra should come with spermicidal prohibitor of some kind. Hook that up, medical community! Also, I'm going to need those bad boys back for later. Don't screw that up.

Be safe and wear a condom regardless... Pregnancy is something you need to worry about, but STD's scare me a hell of a lot more.

I know science is getting closer however you need to consider disease transmission. Abstinence is your best option and a condom is your next. You need to think of it like this. A baby is a whole heck of a lot better than HIV or some nasty VD!!!
