Recently my universal remote stopped working with my cable box. It wouldn't do anything, no channel change, no info button, no guide, settings, etc. not even my VOD button worked. however it would still change the volume on the television. i also tried using my old remote that wasn't all fancy and all it would do was change the channels, and that remote didn't work either, so it's clearly not the remote that's the problem. i tried wiping down the cable box to clean it, and that hasn't helped. I was wondering if there was anything else i could do before i tried calling comcast to try and get a replacement box.

by the way, i tried brand new fresh batteries first, i've tried the 10 minute unplug and that didn't help, i don't have an AB button on my cable box, and i've tried resetting the remotes, both of them.

like Pam said try unplugging the box to reset it...... if that does not work then try hitting the cable button then hold down setup till you see the cable lite flashs then type in the code 993 and the lite should flash again .... that can reset the comcast reomote..if that dont work then will need a new box

Ok if i am understanding u correctly ... the digital remote (black or silver) both are basically the same.... the tv vloume works but you cant use any cable features... and then u used and older comcast cable remote not a digital one (black or grey) that one turns the channels on the digital box.....if this is what is happening...then it is the comcast remote . there are 3 functions that it handles cable /tv/aux or vcr... when you use the volume function on the remote it acts as a TV remote..when you use the guide/vod/ info /channel it acts like a cable remote ....so here are a few ideas ...1 it is the remote the cable function on it is shot....fix you can ask any cableguy you see for a remote and tell him what brand tv so he can program it........call comcast and see (in some systems) they still use a remote code for the digital box..and see if it is on that outlet...without it u will beable to use the tv function aka volume and verything else is dead..... if i missunderstood what you where saying.. then it is the box if all else failed...

We had some problems with our cable boxes for a while. The TVs that were directly wired to cable via the wall jack were fine, and through the box they were fuzzy.

The first thing the cable company said (Comcast) was to unplug the box from the wall (the cable jack) and let it sit for like 10 minutes before hooking back up again. Apparently, that might reset something in there.

It didn't work for us, but give it a try.

I have had this problem many times.. and have had to go through 4 boxes now.... Just tell comcast you want a new box and they will give you a free one.. there isnt a good way to fix it.

It sounds like you hit that A B button on the front of the box.

NO signal, lights for power and data flashing continuously . Disconnected the box overnight and just plugged it in and problem persists

First, always try new batteries. Make sure they're FRESH!! This may seem simplistic, but you didn't mention you had checked them. Batteries can do some strange things when they're even a little bit run down. Good luck!!
