why not blame the guy handling the gun? he's the one that woke up one day and said im going to kill somebody. its not the gun that said it. i hear when shootings happening that they blame the gun or the race of the person. i dont get what the race of a person has to do with killings. its the persons decision to pull the trigger. not the gun and not his race. so why blame either? without guns there would still be violence with guns at least we could fight the violence back from a distance

i think you're right. Guns when used right protects people and keeps them safe. Guns dont kill people people using the guns kill people.

People out there lsee the gun as an integral part of what happened, so it must be the cause. They claim that if the gun was not present, then the incident would not have happened. I'd be willing to bet that if this guy did not have a gun (the recent shooting) that he would have managed to make a bomb of some sort, and still end up with a high death rate.
Also, there are a lot of indivuduals out there who are going to try to use this issue to push for more gun control, but that is sheer nonsense. Gun control does nothing but make it harder for law-abiding citizens. The criminals, the ones who are doing these shootings and committing the crimes, are going to get their hands on the guns anyways, so what will making more laws do? The punishment for gun-related crimes should be higher, because that at least could serve as a deterrent.
But, more in line with your specific question, people rarely like to think that it is society's fault, so they blame anything else within the situation (in this case, the gun). They think that without guns, there'd be no violence and no wars. If we take a look back at history, well, that's not the case.
I guess I'm sort of all over with my answer, but in basic terms, I agree with you. The blame should be on the person, not the weapon.

I suspect that before long there will be a psychological search done before selling any gun. Guns kill people because people control the gun.He wouldn't have gone in there and successfully knifed 30 people. He couldn't have used a bow and arrow. Personally, I don't want those of us who are reponsible gun owners to give up our guns but I think we would all agree to a database. I would hate it if my grandchild took my gun and shot a bunch of people-wouldn't you???

Because no matter how crazy the guy is he can't shoot anybody without a gun. And imagine if Cho had run around trying to stab people instead of shooting them. Less people would have died.

The same reason people will blame a whole race of people for the actions of one person of that race. Prejudices aren't based on reasoning, they're based on emotions.

There are reasons. For example, although it is against the law for a person who has been committed to a mental hospital to buy a gun, the NRA has prevented realistic enforcement of this law. One assumes that many of their members have been in the loony bin.

Guns are more fatal than other forms of weapons. There has always been and will always be violence. The scope can be contained by controlling what weapons are available.
