He never wrote any of his songs. I just looked it up. He must be the most overrated person ever.

I guess to really get the Elvis thing you need to watch him when you are very young. All of his movies were badly made and after you get so old you are so cynical you can't give them a chance. Some people have a presence about them that can captivate other people and Elvis was the best I have ever seen. If you put him in a room with all the big actors and singers of today they would all fade into the background. Your right there are a lot of people that have done more than Elvis but we don't even remember them today and that says it all. Overrated not at all if anything he was underestimated as a talent and used to make money instead of making some great movies. His singing is equal with the best he could sing Gospel, Christmas, country, soul, and rock not many people can do that and do it as well as Elvis.

He's ok....just becuase he inspired the next generation....bands like the Beatles. John Lennon once said "if there was no Elvis then there were be no Beatles". Pop music today is overrated....its all about finding a pretty face and turning it into to a star. There is no talent period...let alone song writing. Look at the top 40 today....its all ****....like Fergie, Justin Timberlake, J-LO, and such

Think of the most popular, current, well-loved singer. Now imagine *that* times 50 ...for the *1st time* in pop culture.

Moral: Easy to say 'nay' when we didn't live it ourselves.

He broke the color barrier and brought rock and roll to all the white kids.

Without him, there would have been no Buddy Holly, no Beatles, no Stones, no Ramones, no U2, etc.....

He made rock white and therefore popular to the majority of those in the U.S.

What makes YOU so great that you think that you can look down your nose at a rock and roll icon? You sound like you're either a bitter has-been or never-was.

I tend to agree. He's entertaining, even in death, but no Buddy Holly.
