Are young people interested in today's social problems?

Also what are the youth interested in if they are and those who are not, why not?

I think social problems might be a little too complicated for younger people. Once they truely understand privilege, poverty, civil rights, domestic abuse, etc., I think they're interested. I know that by my junior year of high school, my friends and I were very willing to be involved with social activism. But it takes a while for those concepts to really sink in.
Young people do have many many of their own problems to deal with, so that could explain some who are not interested. Their education is still limited to the basics, so they aren't getting much exposure. But also, the entertainment industry is HUGE these days and it is so far apart from reality that it can delay confrontation with social problems for many young people.

I think young people are interested in today's social problems, due to the fact that many young people discuss social problems in school on a daily basis. Also, today's social problems may have an impact on the future generations. It is important for young people to understand what is going on in the world today in order to better deal with the social problems of tomorrow.

people like Paris Hilton or Nicole Richie.Celebrity culture right now is bigger than ever before.

they really are. My own students ask to me questions on current events, on why the government was most hated by the people. This is one sign that they are interested in what's happening around them.
