Now is the time to hold all the rappers and hip hop artists accountable for their mysoginist lyrics and videos. If you don't want the young girls to grow up bent over shaking their hindparts and being called bi*ch and ho, that is our daughters, our neices, our granddaughters, neighbors, our son's girfriends, daughters in law, then boycott these artists. And this is not about race, Imus showed us that all women are being demeaned by this music.
I'm starting with 50 cent, lil john and Snoop Dogg. Even though I like some of their songs, I am sick and tired of the denigration of women. So I am the first. I will not buy their CDs and I will not listen to radio stations that play them. Who is with me?
BOYCOTT! BOYCOTT! BOYCOTT!

Yes I did decide to do this after Oprah. Why? Because I was so frustrated about this and felt I couldn't do anything. Now that Oprah, the most watched show on tv has come out against this, I think we have a chance of making a real change. I know I will not be the only one. And yes, we should boycott the corporations as well, but It is the rappers saying those lyrics, nobody put a gun to their heads and they have mothers and daughters and a community to answer to.

Maybe they will still make money, but guess what, they are sensitive to their fans opinions. I think they are especially sensitive to being critisized by the African American community. I saw Russel Simmons, probably a billionare looking like he wanted to cry. That tells you something.

I admit that I have danced to some snoop dog, lil john, and half-a-dollar.
I watched one hip hop music video though, and thought to myself, "this is SICK". I had never really thought about the hip hop girls in videos before. I don't even want to watch a hip hop music video in front of my grandma because 9/10 of them are really bad.
I'm not going to boycott my favorite station though. They play some hip hop occassionally, but I hardly ever turn the station. You must remember not ALL hip hop degrades women.
P.S. THank you for posting this!! After the whole Don Imus crap everyone on here has been calling us black people hypocrites for not speaking up against rap too!

Okay when Don Imus made his comment it was specific to that basket ball team. They were playing a championship game in which they lost. Then here comes a national sydicated radio talk show host with his rude and disrespectful comment! Imagin how they felt to hear that. Thats why I said the issue was between him and that basket ball team, since the comment was so specifically made. Rappers rap about their lives and the issues they may have. It may be about society. Lets break down the genres of rap music Ganter rap where you will find ...N.W.A. - rapped about the police brutality the gang violence and the women in their lives. Ice-T epressed his encounter with drugs and gangs Snoop Dogg gangs and drugs in his life and the women he encountered Westside Connection rapped about Their life in California and the west coast and the women in their lives 50 Cent the man was shot nine times, sold drugs, went to prison he told his story about that, he talks about his son Ice Cube talked about his life in South central Los Angeles, how wicked society was MC Eiht Kurupt Emeniem rapps about his mom, his wife, his daughter and woment in general Crunk These artist are more dance hall rappers meaning their music is specific to the club scene. Lil’ Jon & The Eastside Boyz David Banner Lil’ Scrappy Pitbull Youngbloodz Rasheeda Trillville Crime Mob Bone Crusher Jacki-O East coast hip Hop where you will find: Rakim Nas The Wu-Tang Clan Ghostface Killah KRS-One Jay-Z Kool G Rap Big Daddy Kane GangStarr A Tribe Called Quest Mobb Deep The LOX AZ None of the above rappers specifically made a comment about that womens basket ball team! Plus Don imus has about 3 million listeners. A rapper is lucky if he sells a million copies. The issue is actually bigger than Don Imus, this basket ball team was an excuse to get him off the air, just like the slaves were the excuse for the civil war they were not the real issue!. The reason for Imus being fired is a political one, I can promise you that. Research Dick Cheney and his background in the white house Imus made some comments concerning Dick cheny and the Bush administration. I will leave it at that. Don't believe the hype!

Did you know Charlton Heston stood up at a Time-Warner stockholders meeting and started reading something utterly profane and disgusting, that put everyone present in shock until he pointed out it was the lyrics from one of their hit CDs (Vanilla Ice) they were filling their pockets and children's heads with. What has happened to this country? It dumbfounds me that this sort of non-music ever started. Pavarotti can sing. These other people, who have a greater audience (Idols included) can not sing. Why listen? No class. That's why. Girls, you are not one of the boys; twelve to sixteen times as much testosterone bears watching, closely.
P.S. Eddie Rabbit and Willie Nelson are not in the same category with Beethoven and Verdi.

I agree. I don't listen to or support any of those mainstream rappers. And I think, personally, the biggest influence in that decision was my mother. Growing up, nobody in our house was allowed to play any music with profane language. Period! So my brother and I used to buy our own music, and we had to listen to it on the sly; we either waited until our parents were out the house, or put our headphones on and blasted it in our CD players. By the time I entered high school, I was so tired of sneaking around just to listen to Trina talk about "one minute" men, I stopped listening to that trash altogether.
So I think if more people would drum it into their daughters, sons, nieces, etc. heads, that that music is unacceptable, then they'll be less inclined to purchase, or listen to it.
...that's how I feel anyway..

If you want to boycott then you probabl should boycott the record lable all together....rappers are putting out what the lable wants them too. Also Raappers are not calling me nor my sister, neice, or any other women I know a bi**h or ho because we are not shaking are stuff in front of cameras. I dont understand why people always say they degrade women women are more then capable of not being in those videos.....maybe if some of these women would respect themselves then other people would respect them too. Hell Lil john and snoop dogg are married do you think that they talk and disrespect there wifes...no they dont......they arent disrespecting anyone who doesnt already disrespect themselves.....If you want to make a difference find away to get these young women to have confidence in thereselfs and have some buisness about themselves and then maybe the will not allow others to disrespect them.

What I think is even an better idea is to support rappers who don't overwhelming portray negatives images of women like Common, Talib Kweli, the Roots, Lupe Fiasco, Rymefest, ded prez & others. I can never understand why women (especially black) complain about misogny in rap then support the very same rappers they continuely complain about. When asked if they support or heard about the above rappers (which is not an excuse in the age of the internet) its either "no" or they don't make songs I like. Wait, all these aforementions rappers are accriticaly acclaimed & make some of the most thought provoking, creative music in the biz!
Then others say "well I just like 'bad boys', well to you who do then "stop complaining!".

I hear what you're saying. Let me be frank for a moment and state that we need to hold all record labels, artists, actors, comedians, disc jockeys, video jockeys , etc. responsible for the poisonous music our children are being provided. WE OURSELVES have the sole responsibility of screening what our children may be allowed to purchase. I am the father of two young Black ladies, and I am concerned very much about the content of what is being offered to them. If we are going to boycott, then let's do it literally and not figuratively. Talk is cheap where I'm from. Feel me? God Bless You and I'll stand with you in this fight.

I don't need to boycott them, I already hate rappers in general. None of them are as intelligent/talented as 2pac was. I agree that their lyrics are degrading to women.
