NEVER and the fact that I am only a kid

It is YOUR home and they are in your territory. It is absolutely okay for you to request that your guests remove their shoes. A lot of people do not like others wearing shoes in the house, as it makes the floors very dirty. I'm sure your guest will be more than understanding. What you could do is mention that they might want to bring socks if they do not like going barefoot, but if they are in sandals, I'm sure they won't mind at all. I hope you have a VERY fun party!

No. While I'm a barefooter, I don't like asking people to remove their shoes any more than I like people asking me to wear footwear. Many people are just as uncomfortable without their shoes as I would be wearing them, why would I do that to them?

Only when people's feet are very muddy I'd ask them to do something about it, but the outdoor hose would be as good an option as taking off their shoes. Most of the time using the door mat should be enough to get the worst of the dirt off, the vacuum cleaner will take care of the rest. I'd not want to live in a house with white carpet, I want a house I can live in, not tip-toe around afraid to drag in a bit of dirt or spill something!

Always. It is common manners in my book. The odd thing is, geography seems to play some part in this quandry. I grew up in Ontario, and everybody removed their shoes, all the time, no questions asked. I was taught from the time I could walk that this is the polite thing to do in someone's home, out of respect.

Now I live in BC, and no one ever removes their shoes when they come into my house! What gives? I always ask politely, "Would you please leave your shoes at the door?" and when they do, I say "Thanks very much".

If you think about it, no matter how "clean" the soles of someone's shoes appear...chances are they have at one time or another walked through someone's spit, animal poop, and other bacteria laden crap. I would never drag this onto someone else's carpet...I have no problem asking them nicely not to do it to mine :)

Good question!

No. I think it's rude to ask guests to remove their shoes, especially if they weren't expecting to have to do so. I would never make my guests feel uncomfortable in my home, and asking this would do just that.

Yes...I don't think my parents would appreciate it if my friends walked in with their muddy shoes on, plus I wouldn't appreciate outside dirt adding to the dust build-up in my room. When I go to other people's houses I take off my shoes...I think it's polite to not want to dirty their house and it's more comfortable to lounge around without shoes on anway.

They just do. I live in Canada where we remove our shoes upon entering.

I don't ask them to but most get the hint when everyone's shoes are in the entry way.

No, but people who clomp into my house with dirty shoes never get invited a second time.
