We moved to a house recently that has wood like logs all around the border of the house and fence as landscaping. I went to lift it up and tidy things up, well, low and behold, the wood is full of termites...big ones, babies etc...thousands it seems. Will these termites stay in that wood and away from the house or will then eventually venture up to the house? Would it be better to remove and rid the wood or is it okay to leave the wood? If I remove the wood, will the left overs go for the house or go with the wood? If I call the termite guy, will all the termites go away or burrow somewhere until it's safe to come back out? I've never experienced termites so, this is all new. Thanks in advance for the help!!

Sounds like you have Subterranean Termites.
If you have them outside your home, and they are within 10 feet of the home, your chances of having termites in your home are very high.
If you choose a professional who uses Premise as the treatment product, you won't have to worry about termites moving from one place to another or coming back any time soon.
Premise wipes-out the whole colony. Termites don't know it's there so they freely walk though it. As they do, they pick it up accidently and bring it back to the nest. It's not a bait but it works kind of like a bait.
Termites are constantly grooming eachother to control fungus. As they groom infected ants, they also become infected. This process leads to colony collapse. Not just keeping them away, but wiping-out every last termite in the colony.
Most companies will guarantee their treatment year after year (with a small renewal fee). They need to come out once a year and re-inspect to make sure the treatment hasn't failed. My company has customers who's homes were treated back in the 50's who have stayed with us all these years.
Here's some products you don't want them to use:
Navigator
Prevail
Cyper TC
All of these are termite repellants and will just make them go to a different part of the house. They are worthless!
Termidor is another option. It's a great product but it tends to kill the termites too fast which can cause the termites to avoid that area.
Both Premise and Termidor are very long lasting.
By the way, bait stations are worthless too. First you have to be very lucky and put them in a spot where the termites just happen to want to travel. Second, they have to accept the lure (usually a stick of white pine). Third, most baits are actually Insect Growth Regulators which attempt to prevent the termites from shedding old exoskeletons, thus killing them. If you don't catch the termites within a short amount of time of them shedding, it doesn't work.
A full perimeter treatment, including drilling attached slabs, is the only safe option. If you can't afford that, get a free termite inspection twice a year.

Have a professional come and inspect the hose for evidence of termites in and out. Just because they are outside doesn't mean they are necessarily inside. If they are inside there are no over the counter remedies that will solve this, only an professional can kill termites in the home. If they are just outside and you have the pro come the will guarantee they will not enter the house as part of the service agreement and if so tent the house at their expense. For $25-30 a month is hard to beat insurance like this.
If you live in an area where termites are common like us in CA the mortgage company should have required a termite inspection prior to sale, if it is not clear it cannot be sold.
You should check into this. Call 3 different termite comp and see what they say. If there was a pre-inspection and termites are found (in the HOUSE not out side) you will have legal recourse.

If you bought the house recently, you should have ordered house inspection before you closed the deal. You may also have purchased some insurance to cover damages that's not fixed or determined before you bought the house. Check those before you have the problem fixed.
Termite is a common problem in our areas. Some have their colonies away from your house and come to your house or garden through their tunnels to eat. Removing the piece of wood won't solve the problem. You need to seek the professionals. They will do a complete inspection, including inside the house. Once they determine the infected area, they will treat them. Be warned, chemical treatment only have guarantee for a few months to half a year. Because the treatment do not eliminate the colony, once the chemical dissipates, the area may need re treatment. In some cases, termites are found at different side of the house later. If you live in areas where termite is an ongoing problems, you may want to consider the Sentircon system. They treat the termite by eliminating their colonies. Once the colony is eliminated, the baits in the stations are replaced. The stations become regular monitoring stations. You can find out if your local pest control companies use this system.

You can get sprays at a Hardware chemical department for termites that you could spray on the outside. Since they have a food source outside of the house, it is possible that they have not moved into the house.
My parents had to have their home sprayed two different times and they still had termites. They are hard to get rid of .
