firing order: 1 8 4 3 6 5 7 2. Assuming you haven't pulled the distributor, remove #1 spark plug from cylinder head. #1 is the forward most cylinder on the driver's side. bump the engine over with your finger in the spark plug hole and feel for the compression pushing the air out of the hole. Look for the timing mark on the harmonic balancer. If it is not lined up the 0 on the timing tab, it is on the exhaust stroke not compression. rotate the engine one revolution until the timing mark lines up with 0 on the timing tab. Cylinder 1 is now set on TDC. remove the distributor cap and look where the rotor is pointing. This is where the number 1 plug wire goes. Now follow the firing order clockwise around the dist. cap until all the plug wires are on.
