Does it have something to do with plate tectonics or are there any other reasons and if there are what are they?

this is hard to explain,but here it goes:
the mantle currents below the surface rise because of the hot core.they have to get away and cool down before they go back down again. When they go up, some currents go towards eachother, causing the plate tectonic above them to go towards eachother and crash.these plates are called convergent plates. the spot where they crash is called a Subduction Zone, and there is a volcano erupting there because there is so much pressure where the magma is.

When the mantle currents go up and away from eachother, they cause the plates above to move away from eachother. these are called Divergent plates. since there is a big gap in the middle, there is magma coming out, forming a volcano.

sometimes, the pressure is so big that the mantle currents go straight through a plate, causing a Hot SPot.
did you know that Hawaii is really a hot spot??

Yes, when two tectonic plates crash against each other during an earthquake, and one submerges a bit in respect to the other, the rocks that got separated when they crashed, dissolve in the mant (the magma current beneath the crust). This causes an excess of magma, and to maintain balance it must somehow get out. Somethimes a volcano erupts or the magma just goes out through a crack in the crust.

The buildup of gases under the volcano cause the magma (lava underground) to burst up. The more the gases and the thicker the lava, the more intense the eruption.

There is a slow but steady heating of the magma which increases the pressure until it will lift that huge load of vertical weight. When it starts to blow it will not stop until it is almost empty.
