just reading a post that said the shootings in america are THE biggest news story of the week... what about the 200 iraqi citizens killed this week...why is that not bigger news? i listened to an interesting debate today on why we are not being affected by these atrocities in iraq, and wondered what the general concensus was on here.

The shootings in America are very sad indeed however, I also feel that the endless coverage takes the heat off other issues like Iraq. In one day, over 200 people died in car bombings in Iraq and it barely made the news - that is outrageous. God rest THEIR souls. We need to get things in proportion.

VT shooting. Reason Iraq is second now because the VT is on our home land. Never mind that the soldiers fighting in Iraq are our sisters, mothers, wifes, daughters, sons, fathers, brothers, husbands and friends. The media are just alot of hounddogs sniffing out the biggest story and making sure they get it first - whether they have the facts right or wrong. They will just come back later and say - "here is the update".

In my eyes people in Iraq have been pushed aside because there is truly no reason for American troops being sent there. At first we had a good cause. But now we are killing innocent people. Of course I dont know for sure because Im not over there fighting for my own life. But there was a Virginia Tech shooting and I live very close to there and if you have listened to his attitude described by other classmates and professors then you would know that he should have been under survelliance because he was a loose cannon but of course that is only my opinion.

well the bigger news is the vt shooting i didnt really even here about the iraqi citizens well i dont watch the news all that often but was it intentionally that the iraqis were killed because some of them really dont want our help and the vt thing well some stupid guy who was depressed and who knows why wanted to kill inoccent people the guy was like sorta out there he had NO right to do that but thats not the point i think the vt shooting is the biggest thing that is going on right now and more and more shootings are going on soo yeah.....

health Care passing on Sunday is the biggest and is taking many of the records. in the different case, the Basketball tournaments are growing extremely some interest and Tiger Woods doing an interview and admitting to his issues are also contained in the records. there is controversy contained in the Catholic Church in Germany about how a lot the winning Pope knew about a sex scandal in Munich even as he replaced into the Archbishop there. there'll be ongoing debate about the healthcare bill even after the passing of the bill. There are nonetheless ongoing alleviation efforts in Chile and Haiti by quakes there. There would nicely be flooding contained in the midwest and different places by each and each of the rain and snow this iciness in some parts.

well because for years now the war has been pretty much ignored. Shooting at schools dont happen as often (thank god) and since America is fighting agaist iraq then american's arent as worried that so many iraqians are dying, which i think its sad because no one deserves to die like that, but the war isnt going to end so therefore we know there will be more killings. the war is over seas, Americans arent living overseas they arent affraid of their lifes, Now virgina is in the States, americans feel threaten.

both situations are exreamly sad.
god bless.
we need peace on this earth!

Because things like this don't happen every day, and the Iraq war has been going on for years. What is continous becomes random and boring. News always has to be a stimulating process combined of FRESH and varied happenings..and the media always tries to do that..exagerate the Fresh :)

The VA shootings did not happen in a war zone. Sadly, when hearing about deaths in a war zone people can become desensitized. It's not that they don't care. It's just that they hear it over and over again....and there's a war going on. In the VA Tech shooting, there was violence on a beautiful, generally serene college campus where peace was taken for granted. As we are all now very aware, violence and killing can happen anywhere in today's world.

shooting in virginia tech and because loads got killed by another ex student

well thats not bigger as its old news happens every day maybe not on that level but its not rare for mass deaths in iraq plus student killings is more popular due to the fact that it is more relavent, due to all the problems with iraq people simply dont care any more

The Virginia Tech murders was the top story of the week because it was close to home, everyone can relate to it, and it affected us all. We love our troops too, but the war is not close to home.
