I want to upgrade my pc and I have noticed the prices of the 7950 have dropped. I want a 512 mb card and I dont want to shell out $400 to $500 to get it. I will most likely go sli later but for now I will just use the one. Would spending the extra green realy be worth getting the 8800gt or gtx? I most likely wont go sli w/ them at there cost but the 7950 I will.

Drop the idea of SLI altogether, you will always be beter off spending the money on a better single card than two in SLI, so unless something changes in the future, forget the idea of SLI. The 8800 Ultra comes out May 1, which will drop the prices of the 8800GTX, look at one of those then, or at the 8800GTS. 7950 will not support DirectX 10.

The geforce 8 series is the only series of cards that supports DX10. And the 7950 sucks. And sli sucks. Get a geforce 8800 gts 320 mb. They cost around $250 on newegg.com

None of the 7000 series cards will support DX10.

But the extra money will be worth it, DX10 has some tasty features.

The 8600gtx was just released and is a very good performer for it's price point, even though it is not a 512Mb card.

I checked the NVidia website and they are specifying Dir-x 9.0. Think you have to get to the 8's to get directx 10.0 but they just released a couple of budget 8's you might be able to afford.

Nope you need at least an 8500:

It will support DirectX 10 however you will want at least an 8600 if you are a serious gamer:
