Carbon credits/offsets is not science, its political/economical. Its a way of making money from GW. That's why so many governments are going GW and allowing the population to follow. Poor under developed countries will suffer because there is no technology available for them to do anything about there pollution. Whilst rich governments can tax them as well as industry and make more money in the form of taxes which can be passed to the lowest person on the economic scale. The poor. That's why its called an "offset" Because you can pass it on to someone who needs the money but cannot afford it. Again the poor who are now in a rich countries debt.

Science unfortunately is not exact in many circumstances it is a very high degree of probability. In highly developed and highly industrialized societies, that idea may show great merit but this principle atempts to work on the hypothetical converse (i.e. that lesser developed or less-industrialized societies will somehow create less emissions.) This is not always the case and infact has been proved to be a false assumption. Geo-political socio-economic movements have historically NOT succeeded because nations hold-out and cheat which means the little guy usually loses - but this may be an interesting concept for developed /industrialized nations to utilize and allow a period of time (20-30 years) for smaller nations to come into compliance. It's China, India, The former Soviet States and the USA that can really make this plan work and my bet is that atleast 3 out of 4 will not.

Only if we start plugging volcanos. I single volcano puts out more carbon in a year than all of mankind in all of recorded history and there are thousands of volcanos going off all the time all over the world. Basicaly the amount of carbon man puts into the air in comparison to what the earth puts off naturaly is not even the equvilent of a nat on on elephant's but.
