As most of you know, the anniverary of Columbine is tomorrow. Well, these past few days at my school there have been rumors fluctuating about people dying on that day. The principal sent a mass e-mail to parents saying that this was a mere rumor. However, three hours ago, while in my fourth period, the principal came on the intercom and ordered the school into a lockdown. This wasn't a drill. Fifteen minutes later, it was known that there was a gun threat on my school. Police were everywhere. Twenty minutes later it was deducted that there was no danger. It is still unclear if it was a rumor or hoax, but I'm wondering: Should I stay home from school tomorrow? On such a dangerous day with gun rumors flying around, and the lockdown shows the principal is worried . . . I can't help but be afraid . . . so do you think i should not go to school tomorrow?

Where I lived in California basically the teachers would lock the door put the desk up against the windows and have all the kids sit on the floor (or lay depending on where the windows are) and we would sit by the phone the teacher would reach up and dial our home numbers and we would tell our family that we were okay and that we were in a lockdown. Then either the parents would come and get the children or let them stay until after the lockdown. I've only been in 3 lockdowns and one of them kept everyone after school hours... the other two were actually during school hours. But that's pretty much it NO ONE can leave the classroom unless they have a parent RIGHT at the door of the classroom to pick them up.

omg! i had the same thing happen at my highschool too, kinda, opparintly there was a threat writting on one of the bathroom stalls, and they called in the police and the bathroom was "out of service" while the inspecters where in there, and there were tons of cops all around my school AND for some reason there was an ambulance and a fire truck at the school too, and the principal sent home a letter to the partents explaining how "the police have concluded that there is no threat to our saftey" but man, they took that threat hard core, the cops took a copy of EVERYONES writing in the school to try to match it to the note, (my friend was one of the ones that had matching writing), so ya, it was pretty hard core, but i dont think u need to worry about going to school, just watch out and be a little more observant i gess lol

I can understand why you would be worried and question going to school tomorrow. I am an administrator at a school and am also a little leary about coming to work tomorrow. However, it sounds like your school (as well as mine) has a plan of action if something were to happen (lockdown). Talk to your parents about this and let them know how you feel. Make the decision about going to school with them.

That is scary, especially because it's not only the anniversary of Columbine but the past week we've been dealing with the VT shootings. If you have a sick day, this might be a good time to use it!

If it were me, I'd probably go to school, figuring that even if there is a shooting (unlikely) most of the people will be fine. And your school does seem to have a lockdown plan which they take seriously.
But use your own judgment. It's a serious matter and it's your duty to take care of yourself.

Wow, that is very scarey. I think you shouldn't go to school, and maybe try and get some of your friends to stay home from school to. It's really risky. It might just be a hoax, but seriously, if it wasn't, then you would just be screwed.
Be safe. I hope nothing happens to you, or anyone in your school tomarrow.

It depends. If you think you school is competent and safe and your insticts tell you that there is no real threat, then go. If not, then don't but make sure you have a sick day. Your instinct is usually your best indicator.

Statistically you're much more likely to die in a car crash than by a school shooting.
It's on everyone's minds, and everyone is jittery, but, no, you've nothing, really, to be afraid of.
