um... only the most popular band ever

The Beatles are the band that changed the face of pop music forever. Back in the early 60's, music was a total wasteland. The popular rock n rollers of the 50's had either sold out for movies (Elvis) or died (Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens, Big Bopper), and all that was left was a bunch of corny teen idols and "crooners." It was basically like that time in the 90's after Nirvana and Stone Temple Pilots went away, and all we had left were crappy boy bands. Ah, but I digress...

So anyway, the Beatles had this awesome sound that nobody had really heard at the time- just like a really great combo band playing fast, bouncy, happy songs with great, if imperfect harmonies. And they looked so different- they had these mop-top haircuts which actually look a lot like some of the emo hairstyles now, and they wore clothes that nobody else wore at the time, like suits, which is kind of funny for a band to wear suits, if you think about it. Anyway, because they were so different and English and whatnot, they became enormously popular in England and America, and really everywhere in the world, and a phenomenon known as "Beatlemania" ensued. The whole world seemed to be full of screaming, crying girls chasing after the Beatles. They were so popular that they became the first band to ever play at huge football and baseball stadiums. Before them, rock concerts were usually really small shows that took place in movie theaters, fairgrounds, etc. Around 1965, the Beatles started experimenting with drugs such as pot and LSD, and their music and clothing got really out there but also it got very technically brilliant. They pioneered a lot of music techniques like reverb, layered tracks, and orchestral arrangements, which are still used in pop music today. The Beatles broke up in 1970, and a lot of people say it was John's girlfriend Yoko who broke them up, but it was actually a lot of disputes over money, management, and the direction they should go in next. They were the most influential band of all time, and are still loved and celebrated by millions.

You must not live in America!

The Beatles were an English rock band from Liverpool whose members were John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr. They are among the most commercially successful and critically acclaimed bands in the history[2] of popular music. Their innovative music and cultural impact helped define the 1960s.[2]

The Beatles are the best-selling musical act of all time in the United States, according to the Recording Industry Association of America, which certified them as the highest selling band of all time, based on American sales of singles and albums.[3] In the United Kingdom, The Beatles released more than 40 different singles, albums, and EPs that reached number one. This commercial success was repeated in many other countries: their record company, EMI, estimated that by 1985 they had sold over one billion discs and tapes worldwide.[4] In 2004, Rolling Stone Magazine ranked the Beatles #1 on their list of the 100 Greatest Artists of All Time.[5]

The Beatles led the mid-1960s musical "British Invasion" into the United States. Although their initial musical style was rooted in 1950s rock and roll and homegrown skiffle, the group explored genres ranging from Tin Pan Alley to psychedelic rock. Their clothes, styles, and statements made them trend-setters, while their growing social awareness saw their influence extend into the social and cultural revolutions of the 1960s.

EXCUSE ME???? Is this a SERIOUS question? Because they were only one of THE most influential music groups of ALL time! John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, Pete Best, and Stuart Sutcliff were the original members. Stu left the group (and eventually died of a brain tumor), and Pete Best was replaced by Richard Starkey - better known as "Ringo Starr"!
