I absolutely hate the city. I live in the Downtown eastside despite the fact that I am attending UBC. If DTES is the only place where you could get shelter at a decent price in Vancouver, it is very bad for the city. I am deeply ashamed at the people who tour this city and call it a great city because it is a horrible city. I am moving to oronto, a much better place. I won't miss crackpot vancouver.

My husband and I rent a 900 sq ft 1 bedroom apt with fenced yard for $500 a month including all utilities, internet, cable TV in Vancouver, near the PNE, in a lovely neighborhood of very well kept older homes. It's a safe and pleasant neighborhood, very much a community.

I say that to indicate that affordable housing is available in decent neighborhoods if you are willing to look for it, and have the kind of attitude and character a landlord would be pleased with.

Unfortunately, you are missing out, probably on all kinds of great things, limiting yourself by that chip on you shoulder. You might consider getting some counseling, I think you would find your life greatly improved in every aspect.

Blessings to you.

Vancouver is an awful city to live in, full of hidden racism and discrimination. Immigrants get all the jobs and housing and Native people are treated like crap. Vancouver is also the second most expensive city to live in the world. If I could live anywhere else in Canada, I would choose Calgary, which is more fair to their residents.

why don't you try living somewhere other than the eastside? There's more housing than just the DTES, you have to be prepared to look, which apparently you aren't.. You can get to UBC fast on the B-Line from Coquitlam and other places. Your laziness doesn't give you the right to call Vancouver a horrible city..

don't let the door hit you on the way out of our beautiful city

With its hill history and urban beaches, Vancouver gets the rightly attained reputation of being one of the very wonderful cities in the world, with hotelbye you could have the chance to see this excellent city. One of the areas you need to see in Vancouver could be the Downtown Vancouver. Downtown Vancouver is superbly found on a peninsula in the Strait of Georgia bounded to the south by the delta of the Fraser River and to the north by a deep fiord reaching much inland. Here you can even begin to see the frequently snow-covered ranges of the Coast Mountains. Stanley Park is one of the most visited parks. Is really a lush Peninsula Park of large woods adjoining to Downtown Vancouver. A paved seawall course encircles the natural space, and most readers take some time to investigate on foot or by bicycle. Inland, the park presents several things to accomplish, and readers may spend a complete day discovering attractions including the totem rods at Brockton Point to the west shore sea living at the Vancouver Aquarium. Spectacular opinions are a common through the entire park.

Ouch! Unfortunately you chose the poorest postal code in the entire country of Canada. So of course you are going to see Canada at its worst. Trust me, I should know, I used to work in that neighbourhood (Clark Dr & Great Northern Way) in that industrial area and the things I would see! I even was approached and followed by a drugged-up homeless man with a shotgun one morning on the way to work (yes, police showed up, ambulance, went to court as main witness, etc). I am so glad that I work someplace else now. Sorry to hear that you had such a bad time in Vancouver. I too wished you could afford to live in Kitsilano or Shaughnessy or Point Grey. I hope things turn out for you in Toronto.

Cheers,

Petra M, Vancouver

Vancouver is one of the cleanest cities in the world and one of the best cities in the world so if you don't like go ahead to Toronto which is basically a garbage dump. So go ahead my friend and go to the city which didn't make the playoffs in hockey.

I have to laugh at some of the responses.... It's such a typical BC response. If you bash Vancouver for what it is, boring, uncultured, drab... then all you get is the "if you don't like it then leave" None of them ever try and defend their town they will just tell you your lame etc....

Van is boring. you have maybe 4 bars downtown? rain 80% of the time. worst drivers in the world and are some of the most arrogant people I've ever met. The whole "best place on earth" campaign... they are actually going to start putting this on their license plates!!! most or them have never ever been beyond Seattle.... My advise is transfer to Concordia and live in funky Montreal or go to Ryerson.

Vancouver is awesome
obviously you have a wrong view of it if you live in the downtown east side.

Sorry to see you go NOT!!!!
A city is what you make it. If you find Vancouver lame, the sad fact is that you're going to find Toronto lame as well. Of course, you'll have to learn how to spell it first......
