The easiest way is to use the FEMA website to make a firmette. Its free and shows what floodzome the property is in.

http://msc.fema.gov/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/FemaWelcomeView?storeId=10001&catalogId=10001&langId=-1

Click on map search and place address. When the map comes up choose the "make a firmette" option. The firmette is just a smaller version of the official flood map and should serve the same purpose for what you need it for.

Yes. California will be able to be rebuilt without a lot of the problems facing the South. Fire is what is the is doing the damage in California. Not only is the South having to rebuilt, the flood control systems have to be fixed first, then you have a problem of mold and other health factors that must be addressed before major rebuilding can be done. Then you have the Southern people who have lost their homes sitting around waiting on someone else to FIX, REPAIR, or PROVIDE them a new home, even tho most did not have homeowners insurance. Those who did have insurance are well ahead in the rebuilding of their homes and are actively working on rebuilding. So if the area flooded by Katrina is to be rebuild BEFORE the area being destroyed by fire in California, then the PEOPLE who where flood need to get off their butts and get busy helping and stop waiting on a hand out. And before everyone starts up on me..I AM FROM LOUISIANA and suffered from Katrina as well. I just didn't sit around waiting and wanting others to pay my way.

I'm guessing the Flood Zone Report put you in a flood zone and you think you are not.

The maps change constantly.

Forget going to Fema, get the Flood Zone Reporting company on the phone and have them prove it to you. This might cost you 50 to 100 bucks or so to get them to investigate their original findings.

Or you can pay 12.50 for your own Flood Zone Report.
You can find out about a Flood Zone Reporting company from any title company or just ask your lender to give you their number.

I found a couple numbers you can call. These is in regard to building construction, but the flood zone designation should be the same regardless...

"Questions regarding flood zone designations and verification of any existing off-site infrastructure should be directed to the Public Works counter at (951) 736-2259 or (951) 736-2435."

Hope this helps you.

Check at your county courthouse for flood plain maps. To one who has never been there it looks as if the entire city may be subject to (rare) flash flooding.
