Every day the earth warms up, and is warmest in the late afternoon (generally speaking). Every night the earth cools off, and reaches its coldest point just before dawn.
If the sun quit shining, there would be no moonlight. There would still be starlight. But the earth would cool about as fast as the night time temperature falls.
Inside the earth it would still be warm, as that heat is generated by the decay of long lived radioisotopes. Earth's surface temperatures, however, would rapidly fall. There is a lot of residual heat in the oceans, but these would freeze over. There would be very little rain or snow, but there would be frost for the first few "days." The reason there would be no snow is because snow comes from sunlight evaporating water from the oceans.
A few people would die within the first few days from the cold. Most people would begin dying after a week or so from thirst, as water sources iced over and pipes froze. A few people might hold out months underground.

If the sun burnt out, then there would be 'limited' or 'no' plant life, as they rely on photosynthesis, which is a process which requires light, and our whole ecosystem would collapse. It would also become considerably colder. Also, we are kept in orbit around the sun due to its gravity, so we may fly off into space. All life would, most probably, cease to exist

Earth would be plunged into darkness, temperatures would drop, plants would freeze, people would freeze, the earth would soon be locked in ice.
On the positive side, we wouldn't have to worry about global warming.

everything and everybody would die.
first the plants, because their food is sunlight. then, the herbivores(plant eaters) would die because they wouldnt have any food. next, the carnivores(meat eaters) and omnivores(plant+animal eaters) would die because they wouldnt have any plants or animals to eat. people would also die, because we all are included in at least one of the three "vores".
hope this helps!!
