Do you have a blender? If SO, then go out & buy 2 or 3 pounds of Oranges, squeeze them into juice (for YOU & your family)- put the peels into the blender & puree them into finest "orange mash" you can make. Place little piles of this "mash" wherever you think the ants are coming from- & see it THAT helps. Ants HATE orange rinds with a passion (in fact, it's one of the MAIN ingredients in many bug killers!), & will avoid them like the plague. This is a perfectly safe & effective way of getting rid of them. :)

I have the same exact problem. My whole city seems to have an ant problem and they tend to come into our house as well.
You see, you can decrease the amount of ants by setting up ant motels (sort of like roach motels), spraying ant repellent around the walls of your house (especially under the doors), and by sprinkling borax powder around the areas where they are most prone to coming inside.
Of course, this will not remove them permanently.
The ant problem at my house and in my city is caused by ant hills outside. I mean, they are ALL over the place and they can be as small as a quarter, to the size of a plate. It's ridiculous really. You see, what they do is go underground and make their home but sometimes their home leads to your home. Especially if you have crumbs laying in your floor. The only way to completely remove them is by calling an exterminator. The exterminator will spray your yard to remove the ants that are there, and then he will put these small things in your yard to keep the ants from coming back. This will prevent ants from making homes in your yard and nonetheless from entering your house.

Do not waste your time buying can spray killers. These are only short term answers. They will return shortly because the pesticide does not last. Buy the 1 gallon ant pesticides that your hardware sells. It comes with a hand trigger pump. This pesticide lasts for a month so you would retreat every month. NO PESTICIED will kill forever. All insects return when the pesticide is gone. The pesticide from your hardware gets sprayed around windows and doors and along all base boards. DO NOT WORRY if you have pets or small children, this will not hurt them.

Go to your hardware store and ask the shop assistant for a product called "Ant Rid" follow the instructions on the label and you should be able to rid yourself of these pests. If this product is not available in your country then I'm sure there will be a product with the same capabilities available to you.

Use Terro ant killer. It's a sweet serum that you place on a piece of cardboard . If you have any pets you need to watch them around this product. It is sold at your local hardware store or home improvement retailer.

Go get a small bottle of boric acid. You should be able to get it at Walmart or Lowes. This stuff is really good at killing ants and its pretty inexpensive.

mix sugar and borax 50-50 and place by the doorways, windows etc where they may come in to the house and anywhere where you see them - it will kill them - they eat the sweet sugar and bring the poison back to there nest which poisons the rest of them - just keep it away from pets or children
done this every spring for 15 years and it never fails
