Like most people, I feel sickened every time that I see the news and hear about this awful crime, but why does it seem that the media has almost become numb to the Americans who are dying every day in the God awful desert of Iraq?

You are absolutely right. People are numb and its a shame. Just pray for those families and continue to pray for the people in Iraq. It doesn't matter who dies what matters is the families who go through the hurt and lost You, me, the news cant even feel what the families are feeling when your relative gets murdered. I know the feeling must be awful! What I do is try to send a warm note or donate something to the families or even the school. That will make you feel like you did help and also it helps you not to become numb.

I don't think the media has become numb to the war in Iraq. Unfortunately, soldiers are dying on a daily basis in Iraq, and they report how many, etc. But our soldiers are at least prepared and equipped for battle. The students at VT were just that-students who were totally unprepared for a gunman to open fire upon them.
I myself am sickened by the soldiers dying in Iraq-most of the soldiers are the same age as the college students at VT. Many were trying to get money to be able to afford to attend college.
As for the tragedy at VT, my heart goes out to the families of all of the students who were slain. I am sickened by the carnage one human can cause.

...Because it's been going on- non stop- for over 4 years now, & Bush STILL isn't listening to the people he's SUPPOSED to represent. The people KNOW they're STUCK with the clown for another 20 months...-What MORE can the Media DO- to change anything? The reason WHY everyone's so excited about the next Election already (the Media- ESPECIALLY)- is because it will mean the END of the Bush Administration- and ultimately, the END of our being in Iraq. :)

It's not that Americans don't care about our fellow Americans in IRAQ, it's that we've been there tooooooooo long and the media sensationalism of all of the countless and needless killings over there are becoming daily news. Unfortunately there is so much murder and mayhem in our world that many of us become desensitized to it until it happens to someone we know personally.

And believe me the Virginia Tech incident will take another shadowing by the Iraq war soon enough.

I sent a email to CNN saying the same thing.

I am tired of the media becoming absessed with one story and runing it over and over again, wile other news is still going on, my god they have 24 hours to fill, why do they have to get stuck on one thing, and then stay there telling us about the stuff we could go with out knowing anyway!

I Told CNN that I would begin writting letters and boycotting products sold by there sponsors if they cant find the time to report on other news!

I feel bad about V.T. too, but I feel worse aboutt he 180 who died in Iraq yesturday, and not one news channel found the time to report about that!

Let alone spend as much telling the stories of how, why and when.

Its the new propaganda machine we must be smarter then they are and watch for the forest through trees!

Its sad for V.T. and even sadder they are being exploited so badly!

I didnt care so much when they did over Anna Nicole, she was kinda of a whore, but it did get on my nerves that she got more news time then everything else did.

There priorities is about sponsor money so we need to tell the sponser not to pay them for advertising if they are going to loose there morolity over raitings!

While both are tragic, the soldiers are in a war. They are equipped and prepared to face danger. Virginia Tech was not prepared for what it faced. The media shows the images on TV every day, so the only numbing is the constant bombardment of bad news coming from Iraq.

Because the war in Iraq has become like background music to most people. It has been in our lives for 5 years, it's getting kind of old, and we all just want it to end. This is new, and the worst massacre in US history. Just stating that fact makes people ooooh and aaaaah.

Because in Iraq, those people volunteered and they are fighting for a cause. They are fighting for freedom. The people in VT didn't have a choice. Their lives were stolen from them. I'm tired of hearing about it on the news already because they've talked of nothing else for a week.

A few people have brought this up to me since the shooting at VT. In war you expect to hear about deaths, not so much on an average day at a college campus. That is why.
