In your opinion, why is abstinence in sexual intercourse helpful?

Please give me opinions and reasonable answers why abstinence is effective and helps teenagers. Abstinence in sexual intercourse (sex) means to refrain from having sex. Thank you for all answers. Websites would help, tooo =)

So teens don't get pregnant
so they don't get STD's
so they don't get involved in a relationship they aren't ready for

Less chance of pregnancy or an STD is one of the main benefits of abstinence. Also getting that close to someone before you are mature enough to know how you really feel about them is not good emotionally.
