Don't believe the above, there's plenty of good schools to get such a masters online from... just none of them are online schools.

I will agree that places like Phoenix or AIU ruin a resume. An online degree from a real school with real history is a whole other ball of wax.

However, most will require showing up at the campus every so often:

Here's one at the University of Wyoming: http://outreach.uwyo.edu/ocp/specialed.asp But you have to go to Laramie some weekends. No good if you're not around Wyoming.

Here's one at Texas Tech: http://www.depts.ttu.edu/distancelearning/prginfo.aspx?prgid=19 But if you're not near Lubbock for certain weekends, again, it's useless.

Here's one at University of Missouri: http://www.mudirect.missouri.edu/degprog/ed-special/index.shtm But it's in early childhood special ed. You'd need to call about on-campus requirements, but the website leads me to believe they are minimal.

Central Florida offers an M.Ed in the specialization of gifted ed, if that's your area of special ed: http://online.ucf.edu/programs/exed_grad.html Doesn't appear as if you'd have to go to Orlando. Pretty much the same thing, but at South Florida in Tampa: http://www.coedu.usf.edu/main/departments/sped/gifteded/index.htm And at University of Nebraska-Kearney: http://www.unk.edu/acad/continuing_ed/programs/index.php?id=6229

Going back to a more traditional form of special education: East Carolina University: http://www.ecu.edu/cs-educ/ci/sped/Index.cfm

One last one at Florida State: http://learningforlife.fsu.edu/online/prospective/graduateprograms/specialed.cfm Drawback is it's right expensive if you're not a Floridian.

There's a few more out there that I didn't run down for you, but this should be enough to point you in the right direction.

This is a trick question. There are no excellent on-line schools.

See the link below to see why so many employers refuse to take on-line schools seriously.

Just don't go to the University of Phoenix. Nothing but a worthless diploma mill.
