Brain anyone? He HAS to sit out this year because of transfer rules (NCAA), and Booty is a senior.
Sanchez (RS Soph this year) is good, but still very, very raw. This is an actually good opportunity to fight for the spot when Booty leaves this year.
The Pac-10 runs more prolific West Coast Offenses that are geared toward developing QB's. If he is thinking about his development, this is the best decision he could make.
Being around guys whom have coached and played in the pros, and a proven track record when it comes to QB's (Palmer, Leinart, & now Booty).
Does anyone remember that Booty was an absolute benchwarmer for three years? Buried on the Depth Chart?
Mustain will be a RS Sophomore competing with Sanchez (RS Junior) and two other freshmen that will either be redshirt freshmen or true sophs in '08.
Sanchez has a very strong arm, but is extremely undeveloped and needs to make faster pocket decisions (which will come with more PT).
Strong armed Matt Cassell and unknown Matt Leinart (RS sophomore) fought it out for the starting nod in '03, and Leinart won it (some say by a toss up).
Leinart goes on to win two National titles and a Heisman. Cassell still gets drafted, although he (behind Leinart) threw about 30 passes in college. Go figure. The NFL knows talent, and USC is the perefect Offensive system for developing talent.
Cassell is Tom Brady's backup in New England, and in the NFL you are one play away from stardom. Tom Brady knows that well, just ask Mo Lewis.
If you succeed at SC, chances are the NFL will come knocking early in rd number one.
Remeber Carson Palmer? Extremely erratic in 4 years (with one medical RS), and Carroll comes along and the thing comes together over the course of 8 weeks (last 8 of the 02' season).
The guy wins the Heisman as a result of 8 weeks of great football. Then he is Cincy's #1 pick. No one even remembers how awful & erratic he was when Hackett was there with Carson 97-00.

It looks like he won't play because of Booty and Sanchez, but Sanchez is just a flat out trouble maker and could end up booted off the team. Mustain might have the inside scoop on that and it just may be the reason that he transferred there. I also think that Mustain would win the job from Sanchez anyway, he's smarter and further along(more experienced). He played significant time in a conference that makes the Pac-10 look childish and did pretty well. Sanchez has yet to see the field (other than garbage time if that). Although I don't like him, Mustain would be a better choice than Sanchez, and rightfully so.

That would be a bad idea. USC is full of talent and depth, especially at linebacker, runningback, and quarterback. John David Booty is the starter, but right behind him is Mark Sanchez who many believe is better than Booty. And right behind him is five-star freshman Aaron Corp. So Mustain, good luck getting any playing time.

I am shocked he actually says he will go to USC. He figured to get the starting gig at Tulsa so I think a lot of people are surprised. I have to agree with you, if he couldnt win a full time starting job at Arkansas (not exactly QB U) how will he handle competing against not only Booty but the other bluechippers they have gotten committments from along with the new class that will surely net at least one more high school All American? His Mom is going to have a tough time dealing with the media, in Arkansas she didnt get the bashing she will at SC. Hope Carroll knows what he is doing...this could get ugly!
