There's a Hampton Inn in Hallandale Beach that's at most $89 a night. Hallendale Beach is 30 minutes from SoBe on A1A and about 40 minutes if you take 95. It's also about an equal distance if you head north to Fort Lauderdale.

Look for a Holiday Inn. I stayed at one about 2 miles from South Beach and it was 80 something a night. I think it was on 40th and Collins. It wasn't far at all from the action and the price was just right.

Use www.tripadvisor.com. You can find out how much the hotel would cost from that site, but more importantly you can see what people said about the hotel. That way, you know if you are getting a clean, good hotel for your money.
www.virtualtourist.com is a good site, too.

best western in sobe is about 100, best bet for south beach proper!
