Defacing a flag (including burning it) is an act of protected speech under the First Amendment to the United States Constitution, as established in Texas v. Johnson, 491 U.S. 397 (1989), and reaffirmed in U.S. v. Eichman, 496 U.S. 310 (1990).

A
We still have to go to special places to get rid of our flags. People view burning of the flag as disrespect to our forefathers and our country. The court has never addressed the issue in a manner that protects it. It is too controversial. People tend to stick to what they believe in. I believe that our flag is an object that is not our country and is only used for identification of the US, so why does it matter if we burn it? Other people would disagree and even take legal action.
