No one know how many caves exist -- just as no one knows how many trees exist.

That answer is amost impossible to answer due to the fact there are caves I gaurantee you we don't know exsist at this time such as under water caves that lead somewhere deep in the earths crust

However, what we do know is:

Total number of caves surveyed (including 9 pending surveys) : 64
Total number of new caves found : 59

I really don't know if there is an answer to that question. There are basically an unknown number of caves. Here is a website that has some good information though.

According to that site, there are over 8400 caves in Tennessee alone.
