I live in Alabama and the nearest vet is 5 hours away. I took him behind the shed and couldnt do it. He lives in box behind my shed and I feed him and give him blankets. What should i do?

Call an animal rescue, a shelter or even animal control. If the dog can't be saved, they'll humanely euthanize him. Living in a box behind your shed is no way to live. You obviously care about him, so give him this chance, give him to someone who can help.

By the way, my parents have a dog who has gone blind and is almost deaf, and he leads a happy, comfortable life. But he lives inside, in a loving home where he gets lots of special attention, and he goes to see the vet often to make sure he is otherwise healthy. There is hope for your dog with the right care.

Contact your local animal control or humane society to ask for assistance right away. They can help find a foster family for the dog until a rescue can be found. There ARE rescues that take in deaf and blind dogs, and many that ONLY do those dogs. :)

There are many breeds where this happens often, such as the lethal white aussies and some great danes.

It is ILLEGAL to shoot a dog. Explain that to your parents this and the fact that it's cruel. If you must kill him take the five hour drive to the vet's and put him to sleep. You should move away from your parents (if old enough) and, if he can be spared from death, the dog should go with you. Just because he's deaf and blind does NOT mean he should be killed. Poor pup.....

5 hours to the nearest vet? I can hardly believe that. Alabama isn't that big a state. The best thing is to get him to the vet to be humanely euthanized or take him to a shelter/rescue. I'd refuse shoot him myself.

If he has no other health problems, I would just continue to take care of him, giving him all the love that you can. Would your parents want to have that done to them if they were no longer able to see or hear???? In my estimation this would be very cruel. Also, it is very hard to believe that you would need to drive 5 HOURS???? to a vet, come-on now.I really think he needs to see a vet, and possibly a new home that will give him the attention that he deserves.

Your parents sound like really nice people...so when they get old u suppose to take them behind the shed and shoot them too? Take the poor thing to the Vet. and have him put to sleep. But if you want to keep him ,then keep him.

Just because your dog is deaf and blind doesnt mean he can't live a completely healthy and happy lives. Many dogs can get along fine without those senses, i know a beagle who chases squirrels deaf and blind! If you love him, you shouldnt kill him because of these ailments that aren't his fault! At least try and adopt him out-- when you buy and animal its a commitement you have to make and keep until they die... You cant just kill them when your done. Keep doing what your doing, it's right.

um your actually not allowed to shot a dog..its illegal.why dont you drive the 5 hours if you love him so much? or take him to the humane society they wont kill him unless hes really sick and or dying. just being blind and deaf doesnt mean somebody wouldnt take him and care for him.

That is awful!!!! I can't believe your parents would ask you to do that. That is animal cruelty. Kudos to you for not doing it.
I understand the vet is far, but that would be my suggestion, take him to the vet and let them put him down HUMANELY.

Is this some sort of joke, there is no way a vet lives that far away.
