I'll make it easy. Although we think of black and white as colors especially in regards to clothes they are not colors. White is the absence of color (think of bleached or blank),
Black is the absence of light (think of a dark room). I know whenever I mix many colors together I get dark grey. I hope this has been a help to you.

Not sure why your teacher gave them the no-colour boot but scientifically white is all the colours of the color spectrum together so that light is totally reflected from it, whereas black lacks any colour at all and light is totally absorbed. On the other hand, the colour pink reflects only the pink light in the colour spectrum. Hope that helps.

If you are speaking of light, then white and black are not colors. White is the presence of all colors, and black is the absence of colors. When you see a rainbow, you see the spectrum which is formed when white light form the sun splits into the different spectrum colors of red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo and violet when the light passes through a droplet of water in the sky, which acts like a prism. When the light hits an object, like a piece of furniture, we see the color reflected back to our eyes. The object absorbs all of the colors except the one reflected back to the eye.
If you are speaking of pigment colors, then I suppose you could classify white as a color. If you add white to a pigment color, you create a tint. If you add black to a pigment color, you create a shade.

I think that your art teacher may be wrong. Take a box of crayons - 64, or 96 or 48. Take all of them out, and color a page with each crayon. What color do you suppose you will see? It will be black. So black is not a color, but a large mixture of colors - maybe all colors.
White, on the other hand is the absence of colors. No amount of color mixing will get you white.

Okay, they are colors by common definition.
In the color palette of pigmentation (used mostly in art school), black is a combination of other colors and white is the absence of color.
In the light spectrum, black is the absence of all colored light, and white is the presence of all colored light.
They are opposite in their views, but both correct. An object appears "blue" because it really is every color but that blue, and it is reflecting light (blue) that we see.
