Make sure he's not too hot. I'm amazed when I see babies in 90 degree temperatures bundled up like they're in a blizzard.
This is bad! Then they can't figure out why they are crying.
Light clothing, sunscreen, a hat, water and you should be good to go.

My son was a may baby too. Like you said, the most important things are to wear a hat, keep in the shade, drink plenty of water (not bottled mineral water, salt content can be too high for babies), and wear a childrens sunscreen - some adult ones with insect repellant are not good for babies.
Make sure he has on loose clothing, especially in the nappy region which can get really hot. You probably already have one, if not try and get one of those parasols that you clip onto the side of the pushchair and can position for the best shade.

The biggest danger is overheating especially when left in cars. So many babies have died by really caring parents just forgeting and some not so caring parents. Avoid the hours of the day with the highest UV index. usually 11am to 1pm. stay more to shady areas and do lik eyou did before with hat sun screen , fluids. protect fluids from spoilage. And limit the time in direct sunlight. Babies burn very quickly. This year your baby will begin walking. This is the age babies are at highest risk of drowing in shallow wading pools and buckets with water or cleaning fluids. Never ever leave your baby not even to answer the phone and do not turn your back. Also watch out for bees. Babies also like to crawl and explore in the sand, sadly the sand is not so clean so probalby best use your own sand at home. Your baby will love the tim eout doors though so have fun! :)

Make sure he wears a hat that covers his face as well as the back of his neck- it's a tender little spot to get a sun burn. Baby sunscreen is a must- put it everywhere that is exposed, except for hands. Reapply often. Bug repellent is a good idea in the park. California Baby makes a sunscreen/bug repellent lotion that is made of all natural stuff and is safe for babies.

Lots of fluids, in fact take a spray bottle of water with you in case he starts sweating or overheating. The spray feels so good in hot weather and will cool him quickly. Watch for his skin to start turning red- this is bad! Don't stay out too long.

Go to the park, on a walk, to a store just to wonder around. I take my 11 month old out like that all the time. She really likes the park the best.

I got one of the fan spritzer things so that when it gets hot I can spray my child in the face. One other thing I have on hand it some snacks sometimes you can get that sick feeling when being outside to long and a snack helps like fruit or crackers.

Stay away from direct sunlight, look for shade or stay under a beach umbrella. Avoid very "hot / humid / smoggy" days. Baby skin and lungs are very sensitive to sun and smog.

He'll be fine. If you do all the things you mentioned, just keep an eye on him and there will be no problem. Babies are adapted to going outside :) just make sure he doesn't get any germs.

what a cutie, take him outside, just fyi if you are having strange people touch him make sure their hands are clean first. hand cleaner in baby bag should do the trick, or just clean him after.
