Ok..I was on myspace and clicked on my sister's page..when all of a sudden I heard some loud bell sound..and my laptop froze. Pressing ctrl+alt+del didn't work, so I just held the power button down to shut the laptop off. When restarting..I got a message saying windows could not start up. I called the Compaq company and they had me do a pc recovery..now all my files..including pics/music/graphics are gone. Is there anyway to get them back?

It is possible to recover files with file recovery software. I reccommend Recuva (pronounced "recover"), it is a freeware Windows utility to restore files that have been accidentally deleted from your computer. This includes files emptied from the Recycle bin as well as images and other files that have been deleted by user error from digital camera memory cards or MP3 players. It will even bring back files that have been deleted by bugs, crashes and viruses!

You are able to recover files after laptop PC recovery, it all depends on things that has happened after the files were deleted. When a file is deleted, the data of the file is not erased fro computer hard drive. The computer system only deletes the index entry that tells the file system where the data for the file is located. The storage of deleted file is also now marked as free space so it is can be used for any new files to be written.

If and when that happens, then it is too late to recover deleted files and folders. So it is very important to NOT save any new files to the drive where deleted files were located.

One of the easiest ways to see if your deleted files are recoverable, is to try some good file recovery software. One I always use is asoftech data recovery, which you can download for free from site below

Exactly what kind of sound did you hear? Was it coming from the speaker or something inside the laptop like a hardware? Maybe you got a virus or something that deleted the necessary files for xp to start... If you are lucky windows may be able to fix itself if you have winxp cd or in your case the compaq cd... There are several softwares that can recover your old files but it is a tad bit of a hassle... Anyway, goodluck! Becareful clicking links some can be dangerous. ;-)

By the way, do you have a firewall and antivirus? You need those to be safe.

Try avg and zonealarm they have a free version also try adaware it is free as well. You need these 3 programs to keep your computer clean and safe... and one more program pc tools antivirus is free too...

Further to previous answer, The file recovery tools only work if the disk space used by the lost files is still un-used. For your recovery to have lost all your files it must have removed, replaced and re-formatted the disk partition. This means your original files have in effect been over-written. No amount of data recovery software will find them, Not even the FBI would be likely to succeed. On the other hand, if you upset the CIA? Even then I doubt it. Sorry, always make backups.

If you did a PC recovery, it formatted your hard drive. There's really no way for you to get it back unless you buy software for recovering information after a format. Software you can use can be found here: http://www.easeus.com/download.htm. You want to use the data recovery wizard to get files back. However, in some cases, depending on how in-depth your hard drive was formatte, you may not be able to recover anything. You can read more here: http://www.easeus.com/datarecoverywizard/index.htm

I do believe a pc recovery reformats your whole drive again....so your files might be lost forever. But try downloading Recuva or any similar file recovery programs, but if you do download any file recovery software it must be installed on another hard drive as if you install it on the hard drive you want to recover files from they can be overwritten by the installation of this program

A pc recovery stores your computer back to factory settings, there isn't a way to get these files back. They usually tell you before you do it, but seems like they didn't. You're going to have to start all over from scratch hun! Sorry..

good... lol If you FORMATTED your laptop, All expertise is misplaced. Possibly. Your final again up factor used to be see you later in the past that you simply misplaced all CURRENT expertise. IF that's the case, Go again into recuperation and there will likely be an undo alternative relying at the software used.
