One word: MOD

:-) You can fully customize your pc. You can upgrade it cheaply. I hope that helps.

You have gazillions of cases to choose from...

Hardware availability
There is a wider selection of hardware upgrades available for a PC instead of a Mac. That said, there's certain 'specialized' hardware only available for a Mac.

Personal preference
Some people just don't like Macs, and some just don't like PCs.

Long-term support (opinion only)
This is solely opinion, but some may say PCs would be around longer than Macs. Since Macs are officially supported solely by the apple company, where as PCs are supported by several companies. However, there's no way to prove it either way.

Conclusion
Personally, I'd say stick with whatever works for you. That could easily be a Mac, or a PC. Try both and keep and open mind. That could be another reason for a PC, just to give it a try.

Well there are a few other reasons but obviously the point you have put aside are the more important ones.

But how about

Less virus risk with Mac vs PC.
Mac performance is meant to be netter on an like for like basis.
Adhoc support is better for PC versus Mac as more people have them.
Networking is a little easier on PCs compared to Mac (this is my opinion).

That's about all i can think of right now,

The two reasons you give are the big ones. It would seem the Mac is the "Spotes cah" of the laptop world and the PC is the "Buick".

But my understanding, too, is that Mac fixes (software updates) are a bit slower to emerge. PC parts and accessories (as answerers have stated above) are easier to find, more widespread. PC is the "language spoken" (like "English" versus say "French"?) for dealings.

On the other hand (as answeres have stated) by nature, Mac can be less prone to virus. Mac is more adventuresome in virtualization (can run Windows as a heh, heh, Window).

Hardware and repair service availability would be one reason.

Not all places service Mac's.

Not only that, but if you are a gamer, you want to go PC for sure.

If you are looking for graphic design, photo or video editing, I would go Mac.

I can't think of a single reason. The Mac is a much better system
