car is 1991 mercedes 350sdl turbo diesel.

it runs nicely but i just noticed this the other day. When lookin at my car from the back, my exhaust pipe looked like it was hanging to the left a little bit.

I took a loo ktoday and I noticed one of the thick rubber black O - rings that hold it onto two hooks had broken completely. The right one is still in tact but I can see major cracks in it. I want to get them replaced asap.

Then I investigated a little furthur. I looked at the pipe leading from the front end of the car into the muffler. Right before it hits the muffler there is about a 2 inch diameter hole. Also, at the spot where the exhaust pipes molds onto the muffler, it is extremely rusted and corroded, and tiny holes are appearing where I can stick a paper clip into the pipe. Will this cause any problems except make my car sound louder - which it doesnt right now so what should I do? Thanks , Tyler

Take it to a muffler shop and have the pipe replaced. If you're planning on keeping the car, then put in stainless steel, if you're not planning on keeping it, then use the cheaper galvanized pipe. The shop should be able to replace the broken hangers also. good luck

Go to a local muffler shop and let them "tune-up" the exhaust. A new exhaust may run about $450, but it will save the value of the car and makes driving the car that much more pleasurable.

Time to replace it. You can save some money by ordering the part form a parts store. They're not too hard to replace.

Patience and a wrench.
