Depends on the type of cichlids honestly. If you mean Africans of large South Americans then no, I wouldn't so it. If you mean some of the smaller or more docile South American Cichlids it would be fine.

Generally I would say probably not. Even though they are "armored" catfish, cichlids are pretty territorial and faily viscious. However, you might want to try a larger member of a related species, from the family Brochis. They have 10 - 12 dorsal rays as opposed to the Corydoras 6 - 8 and come in a larger size. There are usually two types that are normally commercially available, The Brochis Splendens and Brochis Britskii.

I wouldn't buy and try more than one, though, until you can be sure of how it goes. Good luck. :)

Be very careful. The only cichlids I would keep with cory's are dwarfs like Apistogramma or Rams. They could work out ok with small, mild cichlids like firemouths as well, but you still take a risk. And of course, Angels make great tankmates for them. That's about it though, most other cichlids will be easily able to kill or eat little cory cats, as they are mild tempered fish and not very strong.

to add to the above statements ...

if you cichlid decides to try and make that cory (or nearly any catfish) a meal ... you may lose both fish. These fish have spines, corydoras have them in their pectorals. When the Cichlid starts to eat the fish, they 'lock' these spines either trapping them in the throat and you have to cut off the spines and try to pull them out without injuring more OR the spines get caught in the belly and cause serious if not fatal problems.

depends what kind of cichlid.

with central/south american cichlids, maybe, depending on which one, angels for instance are fine with corys.

but no africans, they're too aggressive for the peaceful little corys.

i wouldn't unless it is a parrot chiclid, the normal chiclids are very aggressive and corys wont be able to tolerate them.
