Apples and oranges, there is no correct answer to that question. None of the major brands out there are junk regardless of what anyone says. They all have their pros and cons. Buy whatever floats your boat.

They are both good bikes the questions what kind of riding do you want to do? When looking at a Suzuki or even a Kawasaki you need to remember that they change vendors for there parts often when when going for service the shop needs for find out what month those bikes are made so the right parts that will fit the bike and will work. Harley,Honda, and Yamaha do not have these problems. If you are looking for high end performance Harley is not the bike. However if you are looking for a bike that will run forever or will hold its value Harley is the bike. The important thing is to find a bike that you feel comfortable on and that is capable of doinf what you want it to do. Make a list of what you want out of a bike then start your research from there. Each bike has it's good and bad things about it but the more you know the happier you will be riding. Keep the rubberside down and good bike hunting.

Bang for your buck is a relative term. If you're a new rider, first off, if you have not already considered it, sign up for a Motorcycle Safety Council/Motorcycle Safety Foundation (Canada/U.S.) course in your area. Aside from learning to ride from trained instructors in a safe, traffic free environment, you will get a better idea of your skill & confidence level. This can make buying your first bike a much easier decision. Since you're asking about Harleys I'm assuming you prefer cruiser style bikes. I would recommend you start on a used bike to start. Something like a Honda 750 Shadow (any one of the variants) or an 883 Sportster. Depending on your specifics needs, a bike like this could last you for years. If not, they are both good starter platforms. If you're on a budget, you'll have better luck finding an affordable 750 Shadow than an 883 Sportster. Many Harley owners have overinflated estimates of their bike's worth. (if they are selling it is either because they want to upgrade, or they bought on a whim, and are tired of the bike taking up space in the garage...and seem to think that the bike is still worth what they paid for it...which is never the case...)

I own an '05 Suzuki C50. I can't see taking this thing to the track, so not all Suzukis are "race ready." It is a cruiser, a small cruiser. 800 cc, basically. If this is your first bike, I would recommend the 'Zuki. If not, take both of the bikes for a ride, if you can, and decide from there which one you like. Don't worry about the "Harley Attitude." If you get it, you get it. There are plenty of riders with the "sport bike attitude." Which is worse? Who cares, I don't deal with either. I ride because I want to ride, and for the gas mileage! ( :
Seriously, though, sit on them, and decide for yourself which one you like better.
By the way, I plan on getting a Harley Road King Classic for my next bike. No attitude included.

Ask a question with two choices, and the idiots of the world will give you six that are not on the list.
Keep in mind, that all, that is ALL motorcycle manufacturers style their bigger motorcycles to look, feel, and sound, exactly like a Harley. What should that tell you? If the manufacturers, designers, marketing experts for all of these brands think that the Harley is the one to mimic, maybe they are on to something? Harley without hesitation. Check out any motorcycle event in the country or for that matter, any country. See how many people are sporting Harley Tattoos, then see how many are wearing a tattoo that says SUZUKI?

I rode a Suzuki when I first started riding. Now I ride a Harley FXD. They're very different bikes. I'd choose a Harley over a Suzuki any day without having to think about it. I've had a whole lot more fun riding my Harley than I ever had riding that Suzuki. Isn't that what riding is all about?

I personally prefer my Harley, but I've also owned a Kawi, and I come from a family of Buell riders. So, basically whatever you prefer. It's all about the ride and the fact that you just do it.
