I recently heard of some kind of Anti Gravity effect, whereby the mass of an object is reduced by a certain %, for example the military has used it to reduce the weight of a flying vehicle so that the thrust required to move it is far less, and also the fuel requirments also have been reduced. I heard this will be making its way to the "public" very soon, to help counter the fuel/energy/global warming crisis..have u folks heard about this?

Yea thankfully, I also dont rely on "wikipedia" for my view of life..but please remember me when they roll this technology out within the next 5-10 years mmm-kay?

Nope it's not electrostatic field, this development was said to actually reduce the weight/mass of an aircraft for example, so that it could travel much faster with less thrust needed, also the same thing if applied to a vehicle such as a car..less energy would be needed to push it along therefore saving resources. Im guessing this has been in development for sometime behind closed doors in the U.s. military research labs and may be rolled out if things get much worse.
While I think true anti-gravity is some ways off..it seems like an interesting and logical step along the way does'nt it? I just hope its revealed before its too late..

Post 9-11 I doubt this technology would ever be released..but with all the troubles in getting oil from the mid east, coupled with dwindling resources and competition with India/China
it seems like some of this classified hi tech stuff is gonna be needed..and they wont be so scared to piss off the "BigOil" companies to whom this mighht threaten..as their days are clearly numbered anyway now.
Its time for a new industry to emerge is'nt it.

There is no reliable sources yet as it still officiallly "does'nt exist"..(like many top secret programs) but once the flood gate are opened you'll hear plenty about it..new breakthru's will be forthcoming, a new era..much like there was with the automobile and aircraft.
It does'nt take much speculation to realise this, considering the amount of money thats pumped into black projects (as high as 1.5 TRILLION- aside from any other military operations on going)
With that much funding..Im sure there's quite alot of discoverys made dontcha think...

"Do you really imagine that a technological breakthrough this epic could be kept secret this long?"
ABSOLUTELY.
I dont think you know how they compartmentalise
information on Top Secret projects do you? Its broken up into many many smaller pieces..so outside of a select few no one knows the "whole picture" about what they're working on.
And not to mention security oaths which are taken..no one would risk their lives/career's to betray these secrets.
Even back in the 30's & 40;s the nuclear secret was kept. Imagine now then with all the powers they have.
They're in the buisiness of keeping secrets my friend, or hav'nt you heard?

"No one would 'risk their careers' by revealing it? Are you certifiable? The book and movie rights alone would guarantee a fortune to anyone willing to come forward."
Its easy to say that, sitting in your comfy office chair typing away from your cube, but in the real world the government can claim plausable denyability on anything, leaving the "whistle blower" stamped as a "cook" & "Loon" of which Im sure you'd be the first to proclaim! So you cant win either way. Besides, again they would'nt dissapear anyone but make your life very very difficult. Its not unheard of for peoples familys & friends to be threatened or intimidated either. Thats a fact. I think your gonna have just face it that your beloved government can & does keep secrets very well thank you. Try storming Groom Lake and see how far you get?;)
Peace out. *signs off*

" The 1995 commission also pointed out that the military utility of a breakthrough technology is limited if commanders do not know how to use it. A senior officer on the Joint Staff remarked that "we still treat certain capabilities as pearls too precious to wear - we acknowledge their value, but because of their value, we lock them up and don't use them for fear of losing them". The report implied that the SAP world keeps field commanders in the dark until the systems are ready for use and even then, "they are put under such tight constraints that they are unable to use [SAP products] in any practical way"."

Despite the fact that gravity is the weakest of the forces of nature it is the only one that can "defeat" all the others. This becaus gravity, unlike the other forces, can "reach" clear across the intergalactic voids. A black hole is the final victory of gravity. To suggest that there is such a thing like antigravity would have been considered ridicoulus just a few years ago but then it was discovered that the univers is not only expanding, the expansion is accelerating. This proves that there indeed is another force in nature that counters gravity. How this would be of use to us (or the military) I can´t say but Albert Einstein suggested that an object rotating at the speed of light would have some interesting effects on the space/time continuum (and gravity). Years ago a russian team claimed to have actually reduced the mass of an object that was placed above a version of the aforementioned device. Something about supraconductors spinning at great speeds. Don´t recall if this was reduced to another "cold fusion" claim but nobody was ever able to replicate their results suggesting that it was all BS. Regardless, to say that this device, if such a thing could ever be built, would solve the worlds energyproblem would be completely wrong. It would take enormous amounts of energy to opperate such a device. All you have to take into account is the theory of relativity. Mass and gravity is related. Mass is energy. Enourmus amounts of energy. So to synthesize gravity you would have to synthesize mass. And so to create an antigravity field to cancel out the effects of earths gravity, to go to say earth orbit, would require... well put the mass of earth into e=mc^2 and you´ll see.

Do you really imagine that a technological breakthrough this epic could be kept secret this long? Not likely. On top of which, if you heard that it's not going to be released in the near future so that it doesn't 'anger the oil companies' then someone is feeding you a pre-made excuse for why you won't be seeing this technology during your lifetime. Anti-gravity is a pie in the sky. You can increase a body's mass by accelerating it, but it cannot be reduced.
No one would 'risk their careers' by revealing it? Are you certifiable? The book and movie rights alone would guarantee a fortune to anyone willing to come forward. Their lives? Good luck 'disappearing' someone who has come forward into the public eye with information about secret government projects of this magnitude. If the guy fell down and bruised his elbow everyone would be all over the government and accuse them of trying to shut him up.
Real. Get some.

Anti-matter does not have negative gravity, just opposite electric charge. Physicists sometimes employ a hypothetical form of matter, called exotic matter, when talking about creating things like space-time worm holes. It's actually just negative matter, with negative gravity. Unlike anti-matter it will not convert to energy when encountering normal matter; it will simply cancel out. Dark energy is also supposed to have negative gravity, but it does not exist in material form, and is instead evenly spread throughout the universe (theoretically). Anti-baryons, by the way, are composed of anti-quarks instead of normal quarks.

I don't think so. If the military really had such a device, it would be kept a secret, and there is no way it would find its way into the commercial realm until many years have gone by.
Now that I've said that, I believe such a device will be made within the next 300 years. Don't hold your breath.

OK, since we can't get this information from any reliable source becuase you claim they are. . . Well, uninformed, where do you get your information from.
To come here, or anywhere, with a statement like that without mentioning your sources only puts you in the same category as the Alien probers and such.
Tell us were you get your infomation from before making fun what others have to say.

don`t know if what you heard is true or not, sounds good though. My thought on anti-grav is a little different than any I have heard, what if instead of anti, we just use directional gravity. by this i mean create gravity and make it come from above, perhaps this would counteract grav. rather than rather than make something lighter. we see on tv shows that they think artificial gravity will keep them from floating around, so at least the fiction writers think gravity can be generated. Hope someone is at least considering this approach.

now, i don't doubt that the military is workign on anti-grav technology, but i do doubt that they have found it. that would be the single greatest scientific break thru of human history and it would have been published in a science magazine with in days of its discovery. not to mention that the Mythbusters went thru all this already and have, for the time being, totally busted it.

What you are probably referring to is electrostatic field of some sort that rep-ells and attract. (Repells for forward movement (?)and attraction for possible backwards movement (?))
