Why do they want this deadly force in their hands? Most either kill with them (even if its animals) or fantasize about using them to kill (maybe animals maybe a perpetrator). Isn't this desire to kill a mental problem? One that is so large that our whole society has accepted it?

I think that all you people that own guns and want to own guns (no matter what your reasons are or what you think your reasons are) are dangerous and on a path that leads to the destruction of humanity

This country is so in love with guns and yet we are trying to disarm other countries. Hypocrisy at its best!

What's 'crazy' depends on where you peg 'normal' and how much deviance from the norm you're willing to accept. I'd think that hunting doesn't put someone far outside the norm, though I'd agree that constantly fantasizing about killing people would be.

The vast majority of gun owners never kill anyone, though, and the majority of firearms out there are not used for hunting. Many aren't used much at all, they sit in a safe place somewhere against a future desperate need that thankfully never comes. Many are used for sport, like target or silhoutte shooting. Some are simply part of a collection.

I don't presume to read the minds of gun-owners, but I doubt many are disturbed people struggling with a deranged desire to kill. You, however, /do/ presume to read the minds of gun owners and percieve that desire.

I've been wondering about this for the last few months, and I wonder if our society isn't wrong flatly wrong on its stance against violence. Violence is one of the four basic functions of the Id, and I don't believe humans can divorce themselves from it anymore than we can our sexuality. Nor do I believe it would be emotionally healthy to try. I wonder if some of these nutjobs aren't just pushing back (in horribly extreme ways) against a society that forces them to suppress their violent tendencies. Why are we so afraid of minor violence? We aren't a weak people. For some reason, we feel the need to break up every skirmish or bar fight before anybody gets punched. Maybe if we realized that fighting is actually healthy behavior, especially among men, we could give these guys a healthier outlet for their aggression. I just don't think society can win in a fight against human nature, nor would I want to live in such a place.

I am a 26 year old female and I own 2 guns. I love to shoot at targets and various objects in a safe enviroment. I have never and will never shoot animals with them. I would however use them to defend myself, my family, and my property if need be. I hope I never have to use it in self-defense.
I think you are sorely mis-informed about what kind of people gun-owners are. We are not all hungry for blood. Obviously, there are psychos out there. If they didn't have guns they would use something else.
Need I remind you that the OKC bombing (12 year anniv. today) was committed with a rental truck, fertilizer and farm chemicals? The 9/11 attacks were committed with box-cutters and airplanes. No guns were used in those attacks which were the largest in American history.

To DEFEND themselves! Most people find security in the ability to deter a perpetrator from committing crimes against them or loved ones. They don't find pleasure in killing but satisfaction in stopping one. Self defense is a healthy mental attitude.
I think a woman should be able to rid the world of rapists. What kind of weirdo wants more perpetrators with rights. Why do you want more perpetrators on the street and less people able to defend themselves. This kind of liberal thinking is a mental disorder. It empowers evil and takes away power for good people to defend themselves.

personally, i think guns should be at least semi-outlawed. then bring back swords, pikes, spears, and all those other fantasticlly barbaric forms of weaponry. guns are for ******* that can't look the person they are killing in the eye. if you can't watch the life drain from someones eyes, you shouldn't be killing them.

but since that will never happen, ill give a real answer. the vast majority of people that own guns don't even use them that often. the most action an average persons gun sees is at the shooting range to keep it well maintained. then it goes back to its hiding spot waiting for the day it need be used to protect its owner. this day usually doesn't come. as for being crazy, yes a small percent of gun owners are "crazy". but crazy is a relative term. as is "normal". is a collecter of guns crazy? is the guy buying a sniper rifle in a college town? ok, that guy probly is...but the point is you can't judge someones mental state on the fact that they have a gun. i would own one purely for self-protection.

NO!!!!! I am a hunter. Hunting puts food on the table. Its not a "desire" to kill. I dont have a desire to kill unless its a huge @$$ buck then maybe ill get a little desire. I hunt to put meat on the table, my pap hunts to put meat on the table, my dad hunts to put meat on the table. ALMOST MY WHOLE FAMIILY HUNTS TO PUT MEAT ON THE TABLE!!!! No its not a f*cken mental problem. If you think its a mental problem then your the one with a mental problem. If you were a hunter you would understand.

one more thing. GUNS DONT KILL PEOPLE, PEOPLE KILL PEOPLE!!!!

If we outlaw guns the only people that will have guns are the outlaws.

And even 1 more thing. I was raised in a family that used guns all their life. I was raised to RESPECT guns. i was lectured since day one about guns. GUNS ARE NOT TOYS, They shouldnt be in the hands mentally insane people. But us hunters need guns. If they outlaw guns we will be getting SCREWED. They will only be SCREWING the innocent.

No more crazy than people that want to drive a car.

No more crazy than a surgeon who wants to hold a scalpel.

Guns themselves are not intrinsically evil. You are pairing evil with guns in your head.

You must learn to separate the act from the tool. Guns have many other uses than to kill, you just haven't explored those possibilities yet.

Why would our founding fathers insist on the people being able to defend themselves? Are you calling our founding fathers crazy?

I own a gun legally that is kept locked up in my closet. The reason I own a gun is because I have a wife and 3 kids. If someone breaks into my house with bad intentions, then I have every right to do what is necessary to protect my family.

So if a crazy person attacks you with a weapon, wouldn't you like to be able to defend yourself?

If the government suddenly decided that you have no more freedom, wouldn't you like to be able to "tell" them otherwise?

Guns are how America was started - you'll be hard pressed to change an entire culture. And even if guns were banned, people who were evil would still have them - how much cocaine is smuggled and used today?
