my son goes thru spells like that when his nose is stuffy. as they say he will eat when he is hungry. just keep on trying thats what i do. (you do waste a lot of formula doing it) actually we are in one of those phases today...but hey he's 6.5 months and he's as lively as they come! and 20 pounds to boot. he's a healthy lil' fellow!! good luck i hope he gets better soon.

If it is because of a stopped up nose you can try using the little noses spray and a nasal aspirator to suck the boogies out. Check and see if he has a fever if so then call your Dr. back and demand a visit. My son was about 8 weeks when we made our first trip to the ER. He only ate about 3oz all day. He had a low fever (100.3 under the arm which is like 101.3) The hospital said to bring him in. They kept asking why I did'nt give him tylenol. I told them that my Dr. said not to give him anything until he was 3mon and the bottle of tylenol has a weight restriction so even if I thought it was ok I would'nt know how much to give. They gave him some and kept him for a day and a half! He had become dehydrated from not eating so he had to have a IV. It was sooooo sad! I recommend if he has a fever to call and ask his Dr. if you can give him tylenol then wait a hour and check the temp again. I would never run to the ER like I did that time again! It sucked! Does your baby seem happy? if so, maybe he just is'nt hungry. Its frustrating when things like this happen and the Doctors don't even want to see you. Kinda hard to diagnose a problem over the phone don't you think? Good luck and try not to panic. Im a nurse and I still find myself panicking all the time. Its like all my education goes out the window when im dealing with my own child!

The stuffy nose would definitely cause him to cut down on his food. My doctor always recommended just making sure my daughter got *something*... try some Pedialyte watered down, or just plain water. Just try and make sure to keep him hydrated.
Also, when babies go through growth spurts, they tend to eat less and sleep a little more, so that might not be helping with his appetite either.
As long as he's still got good saliva production (drooling), his soft spot isn't extremely sunk in, and he's peeing regularly, he's still well hydrated and should be ok.
Best of luck!

i know that it is hard to just sit back but sometimes that is what you have to do as long as he is not getting dehydrated he should be fine. i have a two year old and every time she gets sick she don't like to eat much and she has been that way since she was born. just make sure he gets some fluids
a ounce is better then nothing. if it gets worse were he won't take anything then i would bring him back in

That would really scare me! I don't think I could just sit back and wait a day either. Sometimes doctors can be so cold and callous!

Your baby is a newborn, and is not getting enough liquids. I would be very concerned. Call the doctor back, or go to the hospital. So sorry!!!

If he's stuffy, he can't breathe and suck at the same time. He'll feel like he's suffocating.

Try feeding him with an eyedropper. It'll take you a LONG time, but at least something will get into him. Also, get the bulb aspirator and suction some of the mucus out of his nose, that will help too.

Use saline and suck his nose out. Use a cool mist humidifier at night for sleeping to help him clear out the mucus.

Try feeding him in a more upright position with his head upright to keep his nose open while feeding him. When they lie down the nose blocks up even more.

Try this and good luck

your doctor is an idiot! You should take him to the er. and not say anything about going to the doctor earlier. Just say he is not eating and you are really concerned that he maybe dehydrated or soemthing. cause i bet he did not give you anything to help the baby get drained? if your baby does not eat like he is supposed to he can become sicker! I suggest you get a new doctor!
