I'm assuming you put the distributor in correctly so that the rotor is pointing to TDC of the compression stroke for the #1 piston and you aligned the timing marks to also indicate this when you set the distributor in.

If you didn't do this, you need to take the distributor back out. Get the #1 piston to TDC at the end of the compression stroke (beginning of power stroke) and now re-insert the distributor and make sure your distributor's rotor is pointing to the wire to carry the current to the #1 spark plug.

If you did all this, place a timing light on the #1 and have someone turn over the engine. If the light doesn't flash, then you're not getting current through the wires. If that's the case, make sure the rotor is moving under the distributor cap.

The next things to check are the igniter module and the coil.

I'm reading the tea leaves, and they tell me you own a Honda?
Here's a spark tester if you have plug wires:
Make sure the plug wires got back correctly. Don't crank the engine with the distributor cap off or any plug wires disconnected because you can damage the ignition module (ignitor on a Honda) and ignition coil. Use the spark tester below and it's ok to crank the engine to check for a nice blue spark.

Find out if you are getting spark at the plug wire, pull it, set it close to the frame, have someone hit the key and see if it sparks (do not hold, unless you have a friend with a good heart, physically, and you want to be really funny) Could you give an update of the type of car, when it started happening, how it died?

Make sure you are getting spark to your plugs and to your distributor. Make sure you also are getting fuel.
Then make sure you have the proper timing set. Something is just out of sync.
How do you know it's a she?
