im going to be taking my son also who is 4 so it needs to be a family spot?

both are beautiful sydney has more for families where as melbourne is very much into the arts

For a four-year-old there is more to do in Sydney. For a start there is the harbour and the ferries. Melbourne just doesn't have that. Sydney also has great beaches, Melbourne has a few expanses of sand. After that, the entertainment for children would be much the same. Both have good zoos although Sydney's is more spectacular with magnificent views all the way down the hill. Sydney is also home to the Wiggles and Bananas in Pyjamas but that doesn't mean you will necessarily see them.

they are both similar places to take a child for a vacation, they have zoos, theme parks, sporting grounds, beaches, markets, shops. both busy places, why dont you try going in between the two - say the sth east coast of NSW beautiful place and more relaxing. either way enjoy the holiday

go melbourne.
there's the zoo, luna park, fed square to name a few.
also there are many kid-friendly place's near by if you don't mind going for a drive... it all really depends on what your son also likes to do

Both are great and they're a one hour flight apart.
