If you burn easy, I would recommend a tanner that has a little bit higher spf. I know I use an spf 4 but been going to the tanning bed for about 2 1/2 years. Also possibly get a lotion that has some sort of coolant or aloe vera in it. I know that always helps. I say though that most people going for the first time usually burn. Your skin has to take some time to get used to it. Also, do not lay the full allotted time...if I were going for the first time I would lay 10 minutes at the most. Hope I could be of help.

DON'T USE A TANNING BED! If i can offer any advice to you it's to not start doing this. I used to fake tan all the time starting in High School and College (i even worked at one!) I've since learned my lesson after I noticed that it has left permanent sun damage on my face. I have uneven skin tone on my cheeks, small (but noticeable) dark spots around my chin, and sun spots on my chest from fake tanning for several years. I never listened when I was younger and thought it was the most important thing to be tan, however, as you get into your mid-20's, you'll realize that the most beautiful people in the world have clear, healthy skin - not red and splotchy. Wear sunscreen (you'll still get a healthy glow with it!) and use self-tanner. I recommend a self spray-tan from Sephora (the Brand is Model Co).
It doesn't smell and your skin will look bronzed and flawless.

Don't start tanning for 20 minutes, start at 10. Also, get a good tanning lotion. I also prefer the stand up tanning rather than the beds because in the bed you have to roll around a bit.
Good luck!

u should start out at a short amount of time, around 5 min, & if all goes well, then move up gradually by a min or 2...if u burn u will defeat the whole purpose, because u will peel!!! u really waited a bit long to develop a good base tan before your vacation...talk to the salon staff & they can explain the different lotions they carry & which one would be best for u...i recommend "crystal" by swedish beauty...it`s about $100 a bottle, but well worth it...happy tanning!!!

If you dont tan outside, you will burn. Maybe try a light sunscreen the first couple times you tan. Only tan for a couple minutes the first couple. Other than that I would say just use a fake tanner. good luck.

I've been to the tanning bed and always burn, use to burn that is. Apply baby sunblock before you go, the same time you would apply the accelerator, use them both and you will get a great tan with no burn.

You shouldn't tan; it's terrible for you in numerous ways. Skin cancer, early wrinkles, age spots, etc..
If you want a tan then I'd suggest you go for some artificial tanning stuff - like that rub on goo that they sell in stores. Though I don't know what that's like, as I am pale and love my paleness.

I've always heard that you should start out with 5 minutes if you are pale, and gradually go up. Any good lotion should work.
