Homosexuality is a sexual orientation, not a physical action that you make a choice to do (like smoking or drinking).

What has “responsibility” got to do with it? My partner was alone and I’m responsible for bringing love into his life for the last 16 years. I’m happy about that and take full responsibility for the love we share.

Well drinking and smoking are definitely physical things that people blame, and you're right; it's wrong. Homosexuality isn't exactly something people can choose, though. This is of course assuming that the person in question is ACTUALLY gay and not just following the fad of the times. I can't see anyone just deciding to be gay for the fun of it because all it does is make your life a thousand times more complicated. But besides this, I completely agree.

There are some aspects in everybodys life that can be achoice but not everything, if we talk about homosexuality, is more as the way we all come, we are mad ein different patterns and homosexuality is just one of those. People like to point the finger, becuz that makes them feel better ang makes them belive that what they are doing is the best becuz everybody else is doing wrong according to them. Very few people is the one who actually accepts the responsability that their own actions bring.

Smoking and drinking are choices, yes, but homosexuality is no more a choice than eye color or skin color. You can't choose who you are attracted to! I suppose one could argue that you can always choose not to act on homosexual attractions; but as long they are two consenting adults who aren't in a relationship with anyone else, I don't see what the big deal is.

Smoking and drinking are choices. If its a problem you can also choose to get help. Homosexuality is not a choice. And what makes you think you know if you are straight? Did you choose to be straight? Did you wake up one day and say to yourself"I dont want to be gay, Im going to choose to be straight?" Or were you born straight? You were born they way you were. Many gay ppl remember having same sex crushes as children. I did, Im not gay, Im bi and I didnt choose this, though I do love it and I dont think anybody would choose to be a sociol outcast. You cant help but like who you like and as a straight man yourself, could you imagine awaking in the morning and saying"Nah, I dont want to be straight, I think I will be gay instead"? Gimme a break.

Scientists have now conclusively proven free will to be an illusion.

Aside from that theoretical debate though, homosexuality is NOT a choice for most gay and lesbian people. Many wish they could love in a heterosexual way but they are biologically and chemically wired to be gay. Only an uneducated twit would assume that gays and lesbians "choose" to be subjected to the mistreatment they have to endure at the hands of uneducated bigots.

For disclosure, I am not gay but many of my closest friends are.

Excuse me??? We do NOT choose homosexuality... we only choose to accept that we are different from the majority and learn to live with it... we don't one day go out and say "Oh, I guess I'll try being gay, see what it feels like..." Some of us actually "choose" being straight to fit in, because the alternative seems unbearable... but eventually we realize that's just not who we are.

davidm,
When are you going to face up to your choice? That you have twisted the word of God into your own little campaign of hate, for the sole purpose of making yourself and your pitiful little life seem better. You have much in common with Usama bin Laden. You better pray that God is more forgiving than you, hayseed.

Homosexuality is inborn, but you do choose whether or not to repress it. Some people choose to act on their natural impulses and lead happy, fulfilling lives. Others choose to obey the impositions of society and sacrifice their own happiness by pretending to be straight, because it's what the world expects of them.
